Front Yard Sitting Area

front yard sitting area

It has become one of our favorites spots in our home. It’s the perfect place to sip a cup of coffee in the morning or enjoy a refreshing beverage in the afternoon. The afternoons are so tranquil as the sun breaks behind the hills and everything seems to slow down just a bit.

As I mentioned in my previous post we used decomposed granite (DG) throughout the front yard design. It sets the foot print for the sitting area , which is right outside our picture window in the living room.

To provide some perspective, here is what this area looked like before. We are very pleased on how the space looks like now, appreciating how crisp and orderly the design makes everything look.

In spring time we planted the edging around the space, which included Dusty Miller and Artemisia, The new plants coordinate with the Snow in Summer, flanking the main walkway, which we planted in the late Fall | early winter timeline.

Against the house under the windows we planted boxwoods, which I hope will grow into a nice formal hedge.

I don’t know if you noticed but we also painted the house gray.  It’s Shermin Williams’ Light French Gray.  We were torn between a gray or a white so we opted for a light gray.

When we moved into this house in 2007, we had it painted a straw hay | butter yellow color, which I loved but it was time for an update.  We are really happy how it turned out.  The new landscaping compliments the new paint color nicely.

We will also incorporate a fountain when I can source the “right” one and include additional plantings but for now we are utilizing this space daily which was wasted space before.  I look forward to see the plants mature and grow into the space.

This area had truly been neglected and was not pretty to look at, and unfortunately all our guests would walk by it before coming into our house.  It was long overdue for an update. Now instead we offer our guests a beverage of some kind in this new outdoor “room” we created and linger before coming in the house.

We have already done so many other advances and improvements to the front yard, which I will share shortly in other posts.   For the time being, this is where you will find us {wink}.

  1. I LOVE this!! We are doing a backyard remodel and it is taking some time as we have a concrete “wall” that was slanting and needed to be taken down. Work, and a lot of it! Thanks for linking up and I hope to see you back next week. Have a great week ahead!!!
