a father’s day tablescape

I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day surrounded by loved ones.  Our day was relaxing and I was able to style a Father’s Day tablescape with fresh hydrangeas from the yard.

We had a super relaxing and enjoyable day at home with just family.  Many years we have gone to a local state park and had a picnic and BBQed while enjoying stunning views of our valley.  This is always more enjoyable to Mr. M than dealing with busy restaurants for brunch, etc.   The kids were able to explore and climb when they were younger, which helped everybody happily linger longer.

Unfortunately the park is not fully open yet so we opted to just chill at home.  My cousin joined us as she does for most festivities and it was pretty relaxing and refreshing.

While setting the table I got a bit carried away and styled it with some pretty hydrangeas from our yard.  The soft green|white ones are in full bloom while the blue|violet ones are just starting to pop.

I am patiently waiting for the limelights to bloom since they are my favorite variety in our backyard.  It’s great having these blooming all summer long since I can bring them into the house for instant decor.  I also love to gift them to friends; we actually brought some to a friend’s house Saturday evening as a hostess gift.

So this is the pretty table I styled and wanted to share here since I just posted about how we refurbished this kitchen set.  If you missed the post you can read about it here{kitchen table & chairs set refresh}.  BUT in reality this is what the table looked like once I prepped it for our family’s real use.

Still pretty but quite not the same, huh? I added the fifth place setting for my cousin and stripped down the plate stack since we only had the entree course at the table.  We ate the appetizers on the back porch while we enjoyed some cocktails and the dessert & coffee was had in the family room while we watched a movie so all these plates were not necessary at the table settings.

I also moved the hydrangea blooms to the green bottle collection on the side leaving the center of the table set family style rather than with a pretty centerpiece.  We tend to eat family style most evenings, depending on the meal.

The transformation of the styled table to the practical reality made me smile and giggle, which made me think it would be fun to share here.

For many holidays we have the highly styled tables, which is super fun and festive, but this was a more relaxed and casual day.  This was our Father’s day tablescape for today and it was perfect!
