Front yard siting area
Hello friends!  Last month I showed you the front yard remodel and I want to share some of the progress we have done in the front sitting area.

Front yard sitting area 1

It is one of our favorite spots now, where we can sip a cup of coffee in the morning or enjoy a refreshing beverage in the afternoon.  The afternoons are so tranquil as the sun tends to break behind the hills and everything seems to slow down just a bit.

As I mentioned in my previous post we used DG {decomposed granite} throughout the front yard design.  It sets the foot print for this sitting area, which is right outside our living room.

To give you some perspective here is the before.  I am really happy and totally appreciate how crisp and orderly it looks now.

We have planted the edging this spring with Dusty Miller and Artemisia, which coordinates nicely with the snow in summer we planted at the end of fall | beginning of winter.  The snow in summer flanks the main walkway.

Against the house under the windows we planted boxwoods, which I hope will grow into a nice formal hedge.  I don’t know if you noticed but we also painted the house gray.  It’s Shermin Williams’ Light French Gray.  We were torn between a gray or a white so we opted for a light gray.

When we moved into this house in 2007 I had it painted a straw hay | butter yellow color, which I loved but it was time for an update.  We are really happy how it turned out.  With the new landscaping it truly shines.

We will also incorporate a fountain when I can source the “right” one and include additional plantings but for now we are utilizing this space daily which was wasted space before.  I look forward to see the plants mature and grow into the space.

This area had truly been neglected and was not pretty to look at, and unfortunately all our guests would walk by it before coming in our house.  It was long overdue for an update and now instead we offer our guests a beverage of some kind in this new outdoor “room” we created and linger before coming in the house.

We have already done so many other advances and improvements too the front yard, which I will share shortly in other posts.   For the time being, this is where you will find us {wink}.
