patriotic decor inspiration

Happy Flag Day!  Since today is flag day and next month is the biggest holiday of the summer season.  Our independence day.  The 4th of July.  In about 2- 1/2 weeks to be exact. Come check out some patriotic decor inspiration.

Patriotic decor

In honor of this important day I’m sharing some patriotic decorating and entertaining ideas for inspiration.  The easiest way to inject some patriotic ambiance to your home or yard is to simply add a flag.

Patriotic 4

I love sticking flags in planters & containers.  And like anything else they look awesome under a cloche.  I have amassed so many flags through the years without having to really buy any.

We have a 4th of July parade in our town every year and they hand out a ton of flags.  Also in our old town they would leave them staked in our yard as well so i’m sure this is the case in many towns across the country.  But if you do need to buy some you can find them at the dollar store so you won’t break the bank.

I also fold up our old flags from the mailbox post when we take them down because they get weather beaten and faded.  I take the opportunity to bring them out this time of year.   Last year I hosted my family last minute after the parade and I threw this table together to make it festive.

Once again i tucked a small flag in every napkin ring with a white linen napkin.  It’s a small detail but sets the tone for each place setting.

I also created an “americana” tablescape a couple of years ago for the blog, using ribbon, straws and other red, white and blue paraphernalia in addition to the flags to set the mood.

You can read all the details on the original post if you want more information.  I loved using my vintage ball jars and vintage inspired coca-cola bottles for this project.  Coca-cola just evokes American culture to me.  Also remember you do not have to reinvent the wheel every time.  I used the same flags on my mom’s antique secretary a few years ago.

This vintage typewriter is always a favorite of mine through the seasons.  It was on my “wanted items” shopping list for many years.  I finally found the right vintage with the right price point and I scooped it right up at an estate sale.  Always, always keep a running list of those wanted items with details & dimensions because eventually you will find them.

Here she sits in all her glory {no pun intended}.  Also another favorite area of mine to decorate, and i know i’m not alone here, is the mantel.  I had some patriotic fun a few years ago with you guessed it, some flags, an enamel tray, a metal liberty ribbon and a baseball, America’s favorite pastime.

I love, love this tea stained bunting I picked up a few years ago, which was ridiculously marked down on a going out of business sale.  My only regret is that I did not have the foresight to buy more.  Last year I used the bunting on my all time coveted goat cart.  The ever elusive coat cart was on my list f.o.r.e.v.e.r.  Like I said, you eventually will find your wish list items at the right price; all you need is patience

Remember to include your decorating outside of the home on your front porch and yard as well as inside.  Your front door is the perfect canvas for this with a welcoming wreath.

Patriotic 2

I love wreaths because they are so versatile.  You can make them yourself or buy them as is or the ultimate hybrid by buying the basic & then elevating it.  The latter is my favorite way to go.
