Thrifted Copper Finds

thrifted copper finds

If you are new around here, welcome! I am so glad you are here today, and I hope you enjoy yourself. Drop me a comment down below and introduce yourself. I love hearing from you.

MaryJo behind the blog

The Thrifted Goodies series consists of monthly posts where my friend,  Rachel, from the Antiqued Journey, and I share thrift store goodness. Topics might include particular finds, tips, techniques, stylings and general advice about thrift shopping mostly for home decor in general.

Sometimes we have guest hosts in the series for triple the fun and today is one of those fun days. We have Tanya from Twelve O Eight blog joining us with more thrifted goodness.

Let me briefly review what the Thrifted Goodies is all about. As I mentioned, Rachel, from The Antiqued Journey and I share thrift shopping related posts each and every month. For example, today I am sharing all about copper pieces I have been lucky to find while thrift shopping. I will share details about the pieces, and how I use and style them around my home.

Rachel is sharing all about her latest thrifted finds. She always finds the most amaZing pieces! You don’t want to miss her latest post and if you don’t know Rachel yet, make sure to hop over, introduce yourself and check out her newest Thrifted Goodies – Volume 22 – how to decorate with thrift store finds.

Some months we are happy to spread the joy with a guest host. The more the merrier, right? Today we are sharing the fun with Tanya who injects a great vintage vibe in her decor, which I absolutely love. You can find Tanya’s inspirational Thrifted Goodies post here.

There is a wide variety of copper out there. There’s the newer pieces which are super shiny and pink in tone, while there is the older looking copper with great patina and a deep color. The latter are the thrifted copper finds that always makes my heart skip a beat, which make me so happy.

Copper Etched Mugs

The first thrifted copper pieces I found were these fabulous mugs. The profiles and the etching immediately caught my eye. The etching is everything!! I found four, and I do not remember what I paid for them, but I remember it was a great little thrift store in Lake Tahoe, California while we were vacationing.

Everything was reasonably priced, which its one of the reasons I always preach to hit thrifts when you are traveling. I know it might not be ideal for some trips, but if you can spare the time, I highly recommend it. The selection will probably be different from your home area and the prices will also vary.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Travel to thrift stores outside your zone for different selections and price points.

You never know what you will find, and that’s one of the many reasons why thrift shopping is so exciting and rewarding. You will find more information in the original post here {why you should always thrift shop while on the road}.

The mugs, of course, are fantastic for beverages. The copper keeps beverages chilled to a frosty temperature, which is perfect for hot summer days. I also love using these pretties on table scapes around here. They add so much interest to a table styling.

See what I mean about the etching? Such great detail. I love crests too, so an etched crest on a vintage copper piece? Say no more. I’m grateful I found a set of four, but of course I would love to have a few more. I don’t think I will ever find the exact same design, but something to compliment each other would be fabulous. The marking on the bottom says, Aluminum Goods MFG CO. A quick search on-line told me the company is no longer around plus it changed name in 1957 to Mirro Aluminum Company, which also tells me these goodies are definitely vintage.

A fabulous copper trough is another find from a Savers thrift store. The funny thing is during this shopping visit I was not feeling the thrifty vibe. Do you know what I mean? I talk about it in this post {thrifted goodies – insights & inspiration}. I was almost ready to leave the store since I was reaching the end of housewares, where small appliances start, which I really do not pay attention to.

And then…I saw it. This pretty copper trough stuck in a shelf where it did not belong. When I saw the price tag, I could not believe my eyes. I checked the piece once, twice and once again, because there was surely something wrong with it. Nope. It was perfection! And suddenly my thrifty vibe was turned around, and I was all about the hunt. Thrift shopping is interesting this way.

The copper trough makes a beautiful yet laid back centerpiece for table stylings. It’s also a great decor piece, which I recently used as a window box for our refurbished vintage window mirror in the family room. It barely peeks out underneath the foliage, but the little bit provides great cozy warmth to the space. The trough has no markings by the way, if you were wondering.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Always peruse shelves quickly even if it’s for items you are not interested in; you never know if another customer put an incredible treasure down in a random shelf after changing their mind.

Mini Copper Bucket Decor

I found the mini copper bucket during a vintage sale at our local hospice store. I bought it with a handful of other small pieces for styling purposes. You can read more about it in this post here {vintage thrifting tips & tricks}.

I’ve used it for several stylings and decor vignettes. It always fills in small spaces with an added detail, and it’s little details like this that adds a special something to designs. A family of earthy mushrooms popping out below. I love all the earthy organic vibes, and if you know, you know. ?

The little bucket was the perfect foil for this St. Patrick’s day vignette as a little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Once again, such a small detail with tons of impact.

Copper Measuring Cups

These measuring cups are my latest thrifted copper finds. Can we take a second and just talk about all that patina? My heart went pitter patter as soon as I saw them. I have not shared them here before, and I cannot wait to see them in design stylings.

I will not actually use them in cooking and baking, but I will be using them as decor accent pieces. They have all the French rustic vibes I love so much. And….. the price? Yes, please. And… the brass handles? I can’t wait to play with these pretties. You will be seeing them plenty around here.

Copper Glass Votives

And although the glass votives are not copper metal, I thought I would share them anyway since they are copper colored and they are a thrift store find. I found these at a local thrift store, The Thrift Station, which I have mentioned here before since I frequent it regularly.

The funny thing is, I did not initially see these on my first pass through the store. It’s a fairly small store footprint so I tend to give it a few passes to look at everything in different mindsets. I don’t know if they were merchandised while I was looking somewhere else or if I just didn’t see them, which is crazy to me. I’m just happy I found them in the end.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Always do at least three passes through the thrift store to make sure you do not miss anything. Every time you will look at things with different eyes, catching different items.

The copper thrifting game is fairly new to me, relatively speaking to other collections I have been curating through many years. I select what speaks to me rather than following certain makers or brands. I really have lucked out with some great pieces and that is one of the many things I love about thrift shopping. Thrifting usually involves the unexpected, the unknown, and the unprecedented, and I embrace it all.

I also have other copper pieces, which are not necessarily thrifted, but are just as fabulous. I think I will share in another post all the different copper pieces and how they all play well together. Some pieces are new and obviously some are old, plus some are made in France while others are made here in the good old USA. I love the variety and the unique qualities of all the different styles.
