copper trend

Copper1
So copper has been trending for awhile now, although it’s a traditional metal with a long history.
Copper2
But now it’s in the forefront.
It started in the jewelry department as rose gold a few years ago & it has crept into home decor over the last couple of years.
Copper3
It’s trending hard now and I seem to notice it everywhere I go.
Homegoods, Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, Target, etc., etc…..
Copper4
I have to make a confession.  Copper hasn’t always done it for me.  {Gasp!}  I know.
BUT I inherited these copper chargers from my parents.
Copper5
And I LOVE them.
Mainly, obviously because they have so much history but I totally dig the patina they have.
I mostly use them at Thanksgiving; the colors just lend themselves.
Copper6
You can peek at them here at our Thanksgiving table a couple of years ago.
I didn’t use them last year but I’m thinking they’ll grace our table again this year.
Copper7
We weren’t suppose to be home for Thanksgiving this year.  We were suppose to visit my father-in-law.  But it’s not happening.
SO now I have to think about thanksgiving!  Agh.  I have ideas for menu & tablescape & details, I just need to organize myself.
But I digress.  Back to the topic at hand.  Copper.
Copper8
It has always been strong in the culinary profession as a great conductor of heat.
My only copper cooking tool is this double boiler my mother-in-law brought me back from a trip to paris.
Copper9
It’s so cute & I actually haven’t used it much lately.
See how shiny & pretty it looks?  Well it didn’t look like that when I pulled it out of the cupboard.
Copper10
Yup.  This is what it looked like before I polished it to be blog worthy.
I’m so happy about how it shined up!  so worth the elbow grease.
Copper11
Polishing around the rivets, etc. was the hardest part but it was still not too bad.
Now I’m considering if I should polish the chargers?  Hmm.  Time will tell.  The verdigris patina is amazing & has my heart right now.
Copper12
The moscow mule cocktail has also been trending that has made these vessels available everywhere!
These are actually a gift for a friend, since I can’t decide what style i would want.
Copper13
Rounded belly or straight edges?   Hammered copper or monogrammed?
There are so many choices so I’m considering an eclectic set w/ different styles.
Target even had mini shot sized ones that would be adorable for a place setting.
Copper14
I love how the moscow mule mugs look with the fresh rosemary.
Even if you don’t want them for the cocktail per se, they make great accessories.
Copper15
I liked it so much I added a plant in my little double boiler.
Love it!
Copper16
Gave me an idea for Christmas & I’ll share it if it works out.
So- have you fallen for the copper trend?
Happy fall fluffing!

I noticed a retail store near us had a new line of copper loved it until I looked at the price. Each charger was $65. Wasn’t willing to pay that. Love, love the patina on yours! Special family heirloom for sure. I’ll have to keep my eyes open at thrifts and home goods. Love it for fall and Thanksgiving! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  2. thanks jann. yes, i would say that’s out most of our price range. i’m sure they were beautiful. i saw someone share using silver plate platters found at thrifts spray painted in copper metallic. i loved that they were all different but in the same finish. just a thought. xo- mj

That is so funny! I never used to like copper much, either, but now I do, too:) I actually have those same chargers from when we got married 20 years ago. I also just bought a copper Moscow Mule cup at Tuesday Morning (only $8) to use for a vase! Great minds think alike! Thanks so much for sharing over at our Vintage Charm party!

I have loved copper since the 1970’s when we lived in Turkey and I brought a lot of it home. I love the chargers that you inherited and I think your Thanksgiving table is the prettiest I have ever seen. The chargers add just the right amount of bling. I’m glad I stumbled upon your blog!

  7. thanks for stopping by kathleen. that’s a great price! love tuesday morning. xo- mj

Looks like Sheryl isn’t only one glad to have found your blog, am loving it also. I like getting different perspectives on life which certain blogs offer.
Am quite envious of your incredible copper collection. Your dble boiler is so gorgeous. Love those Moscow mule cups.First time for me seeing them was on Lia Griffith’s blog last year about this time thru Thanksgiving. And your chargers, oooh my, so beautiful. So glad for you to have inherited some lovely pieces, your table is gorgeous.
I don’t have any copper but did contribute to our daughters small collection. We have small mfg. home so don’t have lots of room for things not used regularly. I gave daughter our set of Franciscan Desert Rose while back, they were wedding gift.
She has big buffet/hutch in her dining room, we don’t have any eating area in our house at all. Do miss our table/chairs and buffet hutch but no room for it.
Maybe will go to Tuesday a.m. to see if I could acquire couple Moscow mule cups.
    Have great week

  10. Hello Jane Ellen. I actually gifted the Moscow mule cups to my girlfriend & I’ve been tempted a few times to pick some up for myself but ive stopped myself every time. Not sure why. and although copper has grown on me it’s not my absolute favorite. I’m also not sure what style I want, hammered, round belly, accented with another metal, monogrammed… too many options so I just always walk away. I do absolutely love the chargers from my parents & I’ll be using them this thanksgiving season. That’s wonderful u passed some pieces down to your daughter she’ll cherish them forever. xo- mj

I love hearing from you!
