a shamrock inspired tablescape for St. Patrick’s Day
Hi friends! Setting a pretty table is one of my favorite things to do. Whether it’s just for my immediate family on a regular night, or for friends & family on a holiday, or for special posts around here, like today. I am excited to share a shamrock inspired tablescape for a festive St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
This is the last St. Patrick’s day project for the year as the shamrock shenanigans come to an end. I used the glass plate DIY method I shared earlier in the year here {DIY glass plates for a custom look}. I told you it is addictive. It’s such a great hack to customize dishes to compliment any table styling.

inspiration behind the shamrock design tablescape
Shamrocks have been my inspiration for this year’s St.Patrick’s day projects. To continue the theme, I found a free shamrock image online. I printed out 6 copies sized to the well of the plate and cut them out in circles.
If you are interested in all the details, and missed my custom glass plate tutorial, you can get all the instructions here {DIY glass plates for a custom look}. I actually found a few different images, but I really liked the creamy grunge background on this one. The fact that there were multiple shamrocks on the image also sold me on it.
I used all the shamrock plants and flowers from the St. Patrick’s day botanical vignette and used them as the centerpiece here. I like to get double duty from seasonal items whenever I can.
details about the shamrock table design for St. Patrick’s Day
Plate Stack
- Willow Charger (Pier One store; not on-line)
- Citation Lace Dinner Plate (Lenox)
- Limoges Porcelain Accent Plate (thrifted)
- Glass Accent Plate (Dollar Tree)
I like the rustic and refined push and pull, which always makes me so happy. The willow charger and shamrock glass plate have a rustic, earthy feel but the Lenox and Limoges china pull in the opposite direction. I love the Juxtaposition.
Place Setting
- Spring Green Ball Jars (Target- I think?)
- Crystal Goblet (inherited)
- Mismatched Silver Plate Flatware (thrifted)
- Green & Brown Plaid Napkin (Pier One store; not on-line)
- Bark Napkin Ring (Amazon)
The place setting continues playing with the high and low. The silver plate silverware and dainty crystal goblet have a more refined feel, while the plaid napkin in the bark ring and green ball jar water glasses give the table more provincial vibes.
Centerpiece
- Plaid Tablecloth (TJ Maxx | Marshalls | or a store like that)
- Vintage French Bread Board (Antique Store)
- Shamrock plants & flowers borrowed from this project {botanical St. Patrick’s day vignette with a shamrock topiary DIY}
- Bark Vase (JoAnn’s)
- Cast Iron Urn (Florist going out of business sale)
- LinenMe Plant Sac (Whim House)
- Assorted Glass Candle Sticks (thrifted)
- Green Taper Candles (Whim House)
- Bark Pillar Candles (Hobby Lobby?)
- St. Patty’s day baubles (assorted)
The centerpiece has layers with many moving parts. Of course the greenery are the star of the show, but they are surrounded with an eclectic mix of pieces, including the candlesticks and St.Patrick’s day baubles.

closing thoughts on the shamrock inspired tablescape
One of the things I love about this table are the plaids, which were not in my mental plan when I brainstormed this table styling. It just happened and evolved as I started layering and planning items. It started with the napkins and the tablecloth, funny enough, was the last thing I added. I know funny, since it’s the foundation of the whole table.
Since I don’t set the table really until I have most of the pieces selected pretty much it wasn’t a problem. I originally was planning on using my white linen tablecloth, but I think the plaid adds so much more depth to the styling. I always create one plate stack with most details to see how everything plays together before I assemble the entire table.
There is also a plaid ribbon on the bow accent I created for the frame above the sideboard. I wanted an accent that would bring the space together. I had selected the ribbons for the bow before I planned the table so this came together by chance.
Plaids always pull me in. I used the same technique for the bow here as in the bow for the {wispy mushroom wreath DIY}, which I will share more about next week.
