Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit character is known around the world. A Peter Rabbit themed table with all the iconic and whimsical Peter Rabbit vibes is a classic favorite. I am a lover of all things Beatrix Potter, and Peter Rabbit always steals the show. Please take a seat at our table and let me tell you the tale of a Peter Rabbit table styling.

Inspiration behind the Peter Rabbit Themed Table Setting
Obviously Peter Rabbit is the inspiration behind this whimsical table styling. Many years ago I almost, almost, decorated our first baby nursery with a Peter Rabbit theme. But ultimately, I decided I did not want a “theme” inspired nursery. That being said, I did have many Beatrix Potter pieces here and there throughout the nursery.
Beatrix Potter penned and illustrated The World of Peter Rabbit and the images are iconic. I went through the books looking at the illustrations as I brainstormed and planned for this table setting. One of my treasured pieces is the World of Peter Rabbit boxed book collection. I am saving this for my grandkids some day and hopefully it will stay in the family for many years to come. Anyway, I love the illustrations as much as the words. Beatrix Potter is the most celebrated children’s artist of the century for a reason.
A Peter Rabbit themed anything is always super cute in my book (no pun intended). This whimsical table styling would be fun for a little’s birthday party or for a baby shower or for a garden party or many other occasions. It’s always fun to channel our inner child and play.
Details to Setting a Peter Rabbit Themed Table
The table has rustic tones corresponding to the garden setting with whimsical notes, channeling the lovable characters in the World of Peter Rabbit. This table has many layers of details to evoke all the Beatrix Potter feels. It was a true joy to bring this table styling to life.
Plate Stack
- Willow Plate Charger {Pier 1}
- Open Kitchen Black Bistro Dinner Plate {Williams-Sonoma}
- Green Pasta Bowl {can’t remember where I ordered these from; maybe Wayfair or Birch Lane or Joss & Main or similar type site}
- Beatrix Potter Book Place Card Accent {DIY}
- Assorted Silver Plate Silverware {thrifted}
The crown of the plate stack is a mini book from my World of Peter Rabbit boxed set. By using a blue ribbon and a personalized tag around each book cover, becomes a special place card at each setting. which you can go as far as gifting a book to your guests as a party favor.
The plate stack is casual with mixed everyday dishes, grounded by a rustic willow charger. I love creating special and different tablescapes, but I don’t necessarily buy dish ware with specific motifs. Using details like the book helps ground a theme without investing in extra dishes and having to store them. This technique allows for the creation of varied themed tables without making a huge investment.
Place Setting
- Green Depression Milk Glass Tumblers {Anthropologie}
- Silver Rimmed Mid Century Goblet {thrifted}
- Petal Pushing Blue Block Print Napkins {Whim House}
- Faux Jadeite Napkin Rings {Thrift DIY}
To continue the casual feels from the plate stack, the glassware is mismatched. The cotton napkins have a whimsical block print design in the iconic Peter Rabbit blue color. This all creates layers of the Peter Rabbit theme in subtle tones.
The faux jadeite napkin ring is a recent project and other accent pieces are scattered throughout the tablescape, which I touch on further down below.
Centerpiece
- Burlap Moss Runner {DIY}
- Watering Can with Blue Coat and Sign {Target | thrifted | DIY}
- Birch Vase with Dried Florals and Sign {Joann’s | gifted | DIY}
- Cabbage Vase with foraged herbs and flowers {yard}
- Bunny and Duck Garden Statuary {Norcal Pottery}
- Faux Jadeite Decor Pieces and Candle Holders {thrifted DIY}
- Assorted Vegetables; carrots, radishes, cabbage
- Assorted Terra Cotta Pots
The centerpiece is grounded on a moss mat, which is piled high with Peter Rabbit and garden motifs. Peter Rabbit’s classic blue coat and scattered vegetables evokes all the storyline feels. The cabbage vase is stuffed with herbs from the vegetable garden and geraniums from the front yard.
Many of the pieces in the centerpiece were reinvented from the Peter Rabbit garden vignette I shared last year. Reusing inspired and creative pieces in similar projects always saves time and energy. The chalkboard signs, the blue coat, terra cotta pots and scattered vegetables were on repeat in both stylings.
Tips & Recommendations
Starting a table styling project with an established theme facilitates the table setting design process. The theme helps determine the overall feeling for the setting and guides the tabletop choices and design.
Peter Rabbit Motifs
It goes without saying since it’s a Peter Rabbit themed table, Peter Rabbit accents are important. The iconic blue jacket, the mini book place card toppers and a small rabbit garden statue all reinforced the Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit character.
Mr. McGregor’s Garden Accents
The tale is set in Mr. McGregor’s garden where Peter creates all his mischief. The garden motifs are grounded with the moss runner and accentuated with the watering can, scattered vegetables and terra cotta pottery. A cabbage hollowed out vase is stuffed with herbs from the garden, including rosemary, oregano and parsley, which are all perfect for Peter to nibble on.
Mix & Match
The whimsical theme allows freedom to play with the table top items. Mixing and matching table top pieces removes the pressure to follow any set rules. By combining dishes and mingling styles proves to be economical and stress free, reducing the need to have a matching set of anything.
DIY Projects
Personally crafted pieces is a terrific way to add unique and special accents to a table styling. There’s a few DIYs scattered throughout the table setting. The chalkboard signs, personalized Peter Rabbit place cards and faux jadeite decor and candles are homespun creations.
I recently shared the faux jadeite decor accent pieces. The footed dish holds the cabbage vase, while the other pieces have varied moss ball decor accents. The faux jadeites candles are a recent project, which I will share all the details in an upcoming post.
