Common Valentine’s Day Motifs

Hearts
Hearts are the iconic symbol of the Valentine’s Day celebration. Just a simple heart hung in strategic spots will inject all the love feels for simple Valentine’s Day decor. Heart decor comes in all sorts of shapes, styles and sizes. Simply find something that coordinates and compliments your home design style.
Also hearts don’t have to be red or pink. Personally I don’t use a ton of pink and | or red in my home decor, but mercury glass always calls to me. A few years ago I bought mercury glass ornaments after the Christmas holiday, which were deeply discounted. And although they have never graced our Christmas tree, I have used them for Valentine’s Day most years.

Flowers
Flowers are the go to gift for the St. Valentine’s Day holiday. Of course roses are at the top of the list, but really all sorts of flowers evoke the romantic and lovely feels behind the holiday.
It doesn’t have to be roses. And it doesn’t have to be red and | or pink roses. Sprinkle the flowers that. make you smile around your home. I love cream and white flowers. These white tulips in a red mercury glass floral container make the perfect marriage for my decor aesthetic.
Candy
Sweet confections are also a favorite for the Valentine’s Day holiday. I love to find unique heart shaped candies, but chocolates are also super popular for the day of love.

Red cherry gummies above and conversation heart cookies below are festive and delicious treats to accent Valentine’s day decor. Not only do they look great but they taste delicious.
5 Color Themes for Valentine’s Day
Red
Red is probably the official color of the valentine’s day holiday (don’t quote me on this but It’s an educated guess). A few red decor accents plus heart shaped motifs round out this vignette. Scrabble tiles are always a favorite way to define a theme or holiday.
Pink
Behind the red color palette, I would think pink is second in line for Valentine’s day. I was never a pink gal even though my childhood bedroom was heavy in the pinks (can’t blame my mom for trying). It wasn’t until I was pregnant with Miss M when pink entered my life in adulthood. I love all the texture the pink feathers, velvet ribbon and candles bring to the party in the vignette here.
Gold
The term “heart of gold” lead the parade for this particular vignette. Golds and yellows bring this warm and rich Valentine’s decor styling together in an unexpected way.
Green
To take the unconventional holiday decor a step further, I created a Valentine’s day vignette dressed in my favorite color, green. It’s not your usual, but it worked for me and my decor style. Always embrace what works for you and your home regardless of norms and expectations.
Think Outside the Color Box
I love traditional and vintage decor, but in order to keep things fresh around here I sometimes have to step outside the usual decor box. I appreciate unconventional themes and motifs. I have a new color theme for Valentine’s Day coming your way next week so make sure to stop by or sign up so you receive new Masterpieces of my Life posts right to your inbox.
Valentine’s Day Vignettes
For additional inspiration here are some St. Valentine’s Day stylings. Take a small detail or the entire vignette to help you decorate for Valentines day around your home.
Vintage Mantel
Our living room mantel is one of my favorite spots to decorate with seasonal flavors. Choose key spots in your home to showcase seasonal decor.
Romantic Tray
Trays are the perfect vessels to display a seasonal decor vignette. They are a confined footprint which can be displayed in many different areas in your home. This Valentine’s Day tray vignette oozes with romantic vibes.
Outdoor Styling
Spilling seasonal decor into outdoor spaces is a great way to stretch creativity. Making the exterior of our homes festive adds to curb appeal and extends our decorating real estate. This is a great way to maximize decorating spaces.
