happy Valentine’s Day

So this post was intended for Valentine’s Day but in the process of moving my blog from TypePad to WordPress it somehow ended up in limbo. My blog was in a nowhere land between both platforms. Do not ask me how this was possible- but it was. The domain mapping pointed in both directions. 🤷‍♀️ I know, very confusing.  

So after many frustrating days, with tears and teeth grinding and sleepless nights it is back to normal.  I hope to be able to make the transfer soon but for now I am happy to be back to my old site.  Anyway, I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine’s Day. We had a quiet day at home just the four of us in quarantine. Yup, it’s a Covid-19 Valentine’s holiday for our family.

As I shared in a previous post, our son contracted Corona virus while at college. We brought him home as a precaution and our entire family is quarantining at home. I have spent some of this time at home completing some projects, and dealing with my blog fiasco. One of he projects was this fun moss heart garland above and I provide all the step by step instructions at the end of this post.

The good news is that Sebastian’s symptoms are mild, similar to cold|flu effects. The rest of us are not showing any symptoms as of right now and keeping our distance and fingers crossed. Update: we all got tested by now and we are all negative for Covid.  🙌🏼

Between mitigating the virus, quarantining at home and navigating the blog technical complications I feel like I am cut off from the world. It is a very strange feeling. I am looking forward to coming up for air soon.

I have been working on garden plans to hopefully finish off our front yard remodel this year. I am struggling with the layout of the flowers and plants for the front area and I am waiting for the “aha” moment. I have a concept and many pins and some consultations with a landscape designer but I still don’t have a clear picture. Stay tuned.

Now, for that mossy heart garland DIY instructions. I used chipboard, scissors, hole punch, heart forms, peel & stick moss and twine. It’s a super easy craft to create. It a simple garland with an understated touch for the love holiday or anytime really if hearts are your thing.

I drew and cut out hearts shapes from chipboard. If you don’t have chipboard you can also use cardboard or construction paper. I used my cookie cutters for some of the smaller hearts and just free formed the bigger sizes. If you are not comfortable drawing out your own hearts you can also use the computer to print out larger hearts and use them as a guide to cut out the shapes.

I created nine hearts for my garland in various sizes. Once all the hearts are cut out, I punched holes in the top part of the hearts on each side. Then I laid the hearts on top of the peel & stick moss sheet and cut out a piece of moss for all the hearts. I have never worked with the peel & stick sheet moss before and this is a game changer for many crafts! I love using moss for many projects and not having to use spray adhesive or a hot glue gun for this project made it that much easier! Game changer for sure.

Once all the moss hearts are cut out, thread the twine through the punched holes at the top of each chipboard heart. Space out the hearts however you choose. For some hearts I threaded the twine through both holes if I wanted them to hang straight vertically, but for others I only threaded them through one of the holes so the heart would hang askew. This adds more interest when the entire garland is hung up. For the last step simply peel the backing off the moss and lay it on top of each respective heart. The actual sticky back of the moss will hold the twine in place preventing the hearts from sliding up & down the twine.

Like I said, it’s a simple craft you can adapt with whatever shapes you wish. This would be great for next month with shamrock shapes for a touch of St. Patrick’s Day decor or even flowers for Spring. Have fun! And wish me luck with resolving my blog issues. 🙏🏼
