Hello friends! Spring is in full stride around here and it’s time for some garden planning.

So many things have come alive in our spring gardens, which makes me super happy. Plus we have so many tasks to put in motion to continue developing our gardens.

front yard updates

⚜️walkway

The front yard plantings have matured over the last two years. The Snow in Summer, edging the walkway, starts to bloom around this time of year with the little white delicate flowers.

The bulbs in the corners of where the walkways intersect are a favorite of mine. You can see how the front yard looked like before here {as 2020 unraveled}.

⚜️church pew area

The little landing where the church pew sits is always a great focal point and we like to dress it up for the seasons. I added an Easter egg wreath to the grapevine form, replacing the reindeer moss from this project {a reindeer moss wreath}. When Easter passes I will put back the reindeer moss. My bunny couple add a touch of whimsy. If you’re interested here’s the story about {the church pew bench}.

⚜️Locust tree

The main event on the front yard lawn is the large Locust tree and we had it serviced a couple of weeks ago. It’s already looking happy and sprouting new growth. We hope it provides a bigger canopy than it has in years past. It’s our view when we relax in the {front yard sitting area} and it’s the focal point in the yard due to its size.

⚜️plant and flower selection

The last piece of the front yard remodel is the plantings for the top section of the yard by the fence and curb. I have been struggling with this section. I have a vision and I am scared I won’t be able to execute it correctly.

Ultimately I am hoping some of it can serve as a cutting garden, BUT provide the correct curb appeal, AND mix well with the rest of the garden design we have already accomplished. I am working on laying out the design and listing the desired plants and flowers, which I will share as we progress. Here’s part of my vision board.

⚜️front dutch door & porch area

The front door area and porch have a new styling now that our new front dutch door has been installed. It’s not part of the yard per se but we incorporated some flowering plants to add to the charm of the door. If you missed the reveal post for the front door you can read all about it here {a new dutch door front entry}. A subsequent post to follow soon with many more details of the entire area styling, it’s just too many non garden related details to add here.

⚜️plantings for the season

The vegetable garden is always a big part of our spring garden plans. Last weekend we establish our veggie garden for the season. And I use the term “we” loosely” since Mr. M does the lion share of the work. But “we” turned and amended the soil. We selected and purchased our vegetables and herbs for the season. Then we laid them out on the raised beds based on sun exposure and planted them. I will share a more in depth post on the veggie garden soon providing additional detailed information.

⚜️design updates review

Last year we updated the design of our vegetable garden and here’s a quick synopsis. Mr. & Master M replaced our old picket fence with a new livestock fence giving the vegetable garden an updated farmhouse feel. You can read all the details in the original post {how to build a livestock fence}.

“We” also stained the raised bed boxes to a weathered gray rather than the natural redwood. I told our old landscape contractor I did not like the color red in my design and he proceeded to use redwood for all our projects🤷‍♀️. I am so glad we finally updated the color; over a decade later.

⚜️sitting area

We integrated a sitting area into the vegetable garden a few years ago. Although it’s a pretty perch in the garden it’s definitely underutilized. I plan to change that this year and have some fun projects and plans out here. Stay tuned. You can see a Fall styling here {pretty perch in the garden}.

container gardening

If you’ve been around here for awhile you know I love container gardening. I haven’t started really planting yet with the exception of the front porch area but it is certainly part of my spring garden plans. I have some ideas to mix things up this year. In the meantime here’s some inspiration from the archives.
