All these soup tureens are second hand purchases. The individual soup tureens plus the centerpiece server are thrift finds and vintage market scores. One can argue that soup tureens are practical and functional items with purpose. At the same time there’s an elegance and refinement about them, which makes them seem frivolous.

Whenever I find one at a good price I just pick it up since the pretty profiles always get me. Some have serving plates, and all but one have serving ladles. All these details add to the enchantment of soup tureens. These are fun pieces to style in cabinets or decor vignettes. I use the small pieces to serve gravies and sauces all the time, but I thought they would make for fun place setting pieces. Come on in, bundle up and take a seat.

Warm soup will keep you toasty in this outside table setting. Comfy and cozy throws, blankets and pillows are at the ready for any guests to snuggle further at this soup tureen inspired tablescape.

The soup tureens are the star of the show for this table styling but I also wanted to incorporate the leaf plate chargers I DIYed last year. The leaf motif is perfect for a table set outside in the crisp Fall air.

  • Mimi Thorisson Dinner Plate (Anthropologie)
  • Assorted Individual Soup Tureens (thrifted)
  • Silver Rimmed Ivory Accent Plate (thrifted)

Initially I planned to keep the entire table hue in the warm colors, potentially using gold rimmed glassware, etc. But when I set the foundation of the table, including the linens and plate stack it seemed very drab to me. The tablecloth and plate chargers and napkins all seemed to blend into each other. So I opted for some silver to add some cool tones to all the warmth.

  • Silver Chalice (inherited)
  • Ivory Laguiole Steak Knife (gifted)
  • Stainless Dinner Fork & Soup Spoon (inherited)
  • Ivory Lace Trimmed Napkin (Amazon)
  • Amber Jeweled Napkin Ring (Amazon)

The large soup tureen was a given for the centerpiece arrangement. The lanterns complemented the table design with the warm wood and golden candles . When I took a step back to look at the table at first I found the serving tureen to seem a bit lost, and it looked to just be floating. By simply adding the small plate underneath, it gave it a stage, which made a world of difference. A small detail can sometimes provide a big impact.

In case of some Fall temperatures, there are cozy pillows and warm throws scattered about for guests to remain comfortable. Thoughtful and unexpected touches like this can help make an experience enjoyable when sometimes it can become unpleasant.

Fall is my favorite season and soup is a favorite around here, making this table a perfect fit. There’s a soup recipe in the works, scheduled over the next few weeks, in case you love soup as much as I do.

When the table was done, and I had taken many photographs, I decided that the table needed something else. There wasn’t enough space for florals or any type of greenery since I always like an organic element. I Iooked around and grabbed some of the walnut acorns I DIYed earlier in the season to add a pop of something. I am not sure, which way I prefer. What do you think? Do you have a preference?

Nighttime, candlelit shots always have great ambiance. We love and burn candles pretty much all year long, but start to use them more frequently as the days get longer and darker and colder. Candle light creates excitement and at the same time generates a relaxing setting.

  1. What a fabulous collection! I love soup tureens, but I never thought to put more than one on a table. You have found some absolutely gorgeous ones here. I’ll bet the hunt is almost as much fun as owning them.
