The American Flag is Perfect for a 4th of July Celebration
The aspect ratio for the American flag is 3:5 to give you a guideline when you design the charcuterie board. This is a great resource to help determine flag dimensions, but it doesn’t have to be perfect. You just want to shape the charcuterie options in the basic flag design.

The American Flag is also known as Old Glory, the Stars and Stripes and the Star-Spangled Banner. It contains 13 stripes and a blue rectangle with 50 white stars, which is called the union and represents the 50 states.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Prep Recipe
- Read instructions thoroughly and assemble all supplies & tools
- Select a rectangular serving platter (mine is 18in x 12in)
Prepare Ingredients
- Wash tomatoes and cherries
- Cut baguette into thin slices
- Chop Havarti cheese into bite size pieces
- Drain mozzarella balls and cut in half
- Cut cherry tomatoes in half
- Toss the mozzarella and tomatoes in the olive oil and red wine vinegar and season with salt & pepper to taste

- Block off the area for the union (blue rectangular) to hold placement for blueberries (the container of the blueberries was the perfect size, but a small square or rectangular dish can also work
- Starting at the top of the platter- lay a red row starting from the side of the blueberries (I used salami nuggets)
- Then a lay the next row with a white food item butting up to the blueberries and the red salami row on top with no space in between
- Keep alternating red and white stripes until you fill the platter (I only fit 7 stripes)

Add Finishing Detail
- Use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut a star from slice of white American cheese
- Place on top of blueberries
- Voila! Enjoy your patriotic American flag charcuterie board & don’t forget to share with your favorite people

Tips & Recommendations About the American Flag Charcuterie Board
The American Flag is also known as Old Glory, the Stars and Stripes and the Star-Spangled Banner. It contains 13 stripes and a blue rectangle with 50 white stars, which is called the union and represents the 50 states.
The 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from Great Britain and became the United States’ first states. There are 7 total red stripes and 6 white stripes. The stripes begin and end with a red stripe, alternating between red and white equally sized stripes.

MJ Cooking Pro Tip
Allowing cheeses to sit out 30 minutes before serving provides maximum flavor and creaminess.
Serverware
I chose a platter which has raised edges to contain all the elements from slipping off the sides. This is increasingly important if you will be transporting the dish for a pot luck. It also makes it easy to move around at home from the kitchen island to the outdoor table, etc. Trays are also a great choice.
Arrangment
The platter should be full with no spaces between the stripes and the union. The red and white stripes should be full against each other without any gaps. The blue union should also be full and piled high. This presents the best impression of the flag colors and design.
Garnishes
The white star(s) is the perfect finishing detail on the blue union, but feel free to add other details. Fresh herbs like basil and mint plus edible flowers sprinkled on the board add a touch of specialness. Use an edited hand with these to maintain the integrity of the flag design.
Accompaniments
Serve the amazing flag charcuterie board with other complimentary foods like jams, honey and chutneys, adding another layer of sweet flavors. Plus add savory options like olives, cornichons, roasted peppers and marinated mushrooms. All these can be presented in dipping bowls around the flag board.

A1. Although it’s not recommended to assemble the board ahead of time, you can prep everything the day before. A2. Left overs are seldom an issue for charcuterie boards, but if you should have to store items use separate airtight containers for the meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables.
