late spring decor ideas in an antique secretary desk

My parent’s rustic, antique secretary desk is a favorite piece we inherited and have in our home now.  It’s one of the pieces I change up with seasonal decor.

Spring decor is associated with Easter much of the time so when the bunnies and eggs were put away weeks ago the secretary desk was updated with some late springtime vibes.

Although Easter was put away there was still so much Spring time left and it was way too early for summertime feels.  So some birds, nests and floral accents were used to give the desk Spring feels which will transition nicely into summertime.

The desk vignette has a botanical feel which is totally my jam.  As I said here before, and I will probably say again a million times over, my mother always preached that all homes should have books and plants.

I follow this decorating mantra and this is a perfect example at a very small scale in this vignette.  An assortment of collected decor books were used to add texture, create interest and provide height to anchor displays.

On the top shelf our latest find was used which I shared here{while you should always thrift shop while on the road}, also naked book bundles which you can learn more about here{7 ways to decorate books} were tucked in here & there, plus you will find the French leather bound small book collection on the 2nd shelf which you can read more about here{birthday wishes}.  The rest of the books have been collected from shopping at thrift stores, estate sales and flea markets.

Do you recognize the mini cloches with the vintage floral frogs and dried lavender?  They were from this tablescape{spring vibes tablescape} and once I broke down the table the cloches moved over here.  I love the way they look and wanted to enjoy them a bit longer.

Besides the dried lavender, there’s also some beautiful smudge sticks collected in a silver bowl and one of our orchids which you can read about here{orchids 101} to add to the botanical feels.

I did not mean to collect so many smudge sticks but we carry them at the shoppe and they are all so pretty and smell divine!  So I just can’t help myself.  I do not burn them but use them as accent decor.  🤩  I think I might have to dedicate an entire post alone to smudge sticks.

The birds and the nests round out the spring vibes nicely.  I like having all these outdoor feels inside since we have been enjoying the outdoor gardens so much.

And although I gravitate to rustic and organic I always like a little bit of bling and some silver-plate and this cute birdie did the trick here.
