Inspiration Behind the Witchcraft Apothecary Cabinet
The potion bottles and spell books DIY were definitely the impetus behind this Halloween styling. I love these Halloween creations and try to use them in a new way every year. A witchcraft apothecary cabinet is the perfect stage for all the magic charm.

They are so fun to make and you can personalize them to your own signature style. Beyond the spell books and potion bottles, there a few other DIYs in the witchcraft cabinet plus Dollar Tree items. You don’t have to spend a fortune on store bought decorations but rather get creative and make it yours.
All the Details Behind the Witchcraft Apothecary Cabinet
Layers Add Depth, Movement and Interest
Start by adding some foundation, which for me in this case was creepy cloth. I included the creepy cloth not only horizontally but vertically, which keeps the eye moving across the entire cabinet. The creepy cloth not only created the base layers but it also helped spookify the furniture.
From there I started adding bigger pieces like the books and cloches. I had a loose idea of how I wanted to style the witchcraft apothecary cabinet, which included the books and potion bottles plus the skulls and tarnished silver pieces, which are on repeat around here. From there I let the styling guide me as I added pieces, and moved pieces and removed pieces.
Library of Hocus Pocus
Witches have been around for centuries and require not only one book of spells but a collection of books for hexes and curses and incantations. Plus recipe books for potions, poisons and powders. I created a main Spell book which garners the majority of the attention. I’m sharing the cover of the book below as well, to show different options for display purposes.
There are some auxiliary books that I created plus I used vintage books that are also dark and grungy around the witchcraft styling. Vintage books always add interest and texture to decor regardless of the season, theme or emotions conveyed.
Pantry for Elixers
For all the potions, poisons, powders and who knows what, every witch has the appropriate containers. The spooky receptacles are scattered about ready for the next victim.
All these pieces were made from recycled items from our kitchen. They were fairly easy to create and super fun. They can be personalized to your style depending on paint colors, style of labels and embellishments used. Have fun and make them yours.
Spooky Creatures
Witches have unsavory friends and scurry around the shelves. The motley crew includes, black birds, bugs, rodents, a toad and more. All of these were found at the Dollar Tree through the years.
Skulls and skeletons are also the elements of choice for these witches, but you can use many spooky motifs. Other options are ghosts, bats, snakes, clowns (ugh! not my favorite; they really spook me). Anyway, use whatever speaks to your Halloween sensibilities.
Texture Draws You In and Creates Attraction
Organic elements always add a ton of texture as do textiles. Faux florals, Spanish moss, creepy cloth, burlap, and more inject a ton of texture here. Other considerations include stretchy spider webs, black lace, fog, dried florals and more.
Chances are a normal piece of decor accented by one of these organic mediums in the right setting will immediately look ghoulish and fit right into a witchcraft apothecary cabinet or any Halloween vignette for that matter.
Homemade Projects Add Personalization
Besides the book and bottle DIYs there are many other home spun projects throughout the apothecary cabinet styling. I am listing below all the ones that have tutorials with links for your convenience.
I have other DIY crafts which unfortunately I do not have the step by step tutorial, but hopefully you will still be inspired by them anyway.
