Today we are sharing ideas on how to start tip toeing towards Fall vibes without taking the deep plunge into a pumpkin patch. There are subtle touches you can use in your home to transition into Fall decor, bridging the gap between late summer and Fall harvest season.

Since the “official” start of Autumn is still about a month away, I prefer to make simple tweaks around our home to start the transition. Some easy ways to add Fall feels, before piling the pumpkins high and dragging all the fall decor containers out, are by simply using color, texture and natural elements.

For fall I tend to use browns, deeper greens and golds. Brown transfer ware is one of my muses for Fall since it’s a great everyday item that shines during this time of year. Fall does not have to be all about oranges and rust tones. Although it’s not for me, I think plums are really pretty this time of year.

Notice all the dark green accents? Our vintage green glass container in the kitchen and the collection of green vintage books on the antique secretary in the living room. I think the brown and greens play so well off of each other and with pops of gold it completes my Fall palette.

Texture is also a great way to change up seasonal decor. In the Fall I add more pillows and throws to add cozy layers and the feelings that cooler temps bring.

Do you see our little Miss Bailey in the picture above? I am sure I didn’t even realize she was there when I took the picture. 🙂

The blanket ladder in the family room gets loaded up with warm throws full of texture with fringes, faux fur and nubby wool. There is something for everybody as we snuggle to watch a movie, football game or whatever we are binge watching at the moment.

My last go to for transitioning seasonal decor are natural elements. Produce tends to be an easy choice from apples, pears and figs to moody vegetables like artichokes and deep kales.

The possibilities are endless with fresh produce and you can enjoy them first as decor and then second in your diet.

I love to use organic elements in my decor so produce is a great option. I also use dried flowers like these fabulous eucalyptus branches with dried pods. These were a gift from some girlfriends for my birthday years ago and I dried them and I bring them out around this time of year.

I also have these dried mushrooms I absolutely love from Terrain. They are very unique and might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I have an obsession with mushrooms, which you can read all about here {my fascinations with mushrooms | fungi | toadstools}.

Of course a favorite way to decorate organically is with natural flowers.

Fresh flowers always make such a big impact in any space plus they just simply make me happy. They make me happy even when they are a little bit wilted or even when they have dried out.

Eventually I will be adding pumpkins, gourds, pine cones, wheat, acorns, etc. throughout our home, but I won’t pull out the Fall big guns until after Labor Day, closer to the true first day of Autumn.

Hopefully this helps you get into a “Fall” mood or inspires you to add some seasonal decor. I love to share my ideas, but I would really love to hear what you do to start your seasonal decorating transition. I love Fall and all the things it brings!

I like this idea. I have pulled out the boxes with my Fall decor in them but just can’t get motivated to put things out while it is still 90 degrees outside. Thanks for sharing your tips. #HomeMattersParty
Thanks Donna. I know- I can’t even get myself to pull the binds out. lol. It’s not that hot today but it doesn’t mean it won’t be 100+ tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by. XO- MJ
