Although I get behind Halloween, and I love to sprinkle haunting wonderland throughout our home, I know it’s not for everyone. I’m here to tell you there’s no need to buy Halloween decor and table top wares to just use specifically for the holiday. Instead use what you have in a particular way to exude Halloween vibes.

The dark color scheme and the moody florals adds to the air of mystery. The dark candle votives and black candle tapers adds just enough mystical tones with a bit of sullen emotions.

The table is set in the kitchen to keep with the relaxed and casual vibes. By using dark table top pieces it creates a moody scene, which is perfect for Halloween. Come on in and let’s take a look at the table in more detail.

Everything in the plate stack is business as usual over here. The plates used are our regular everyday plates, plus two new to me purple transfer ware plates, which I thrifted recently at a vintage event. Black and purple is a great color combination for Halloween, which is much more subtle than orange and black.

I’ve always admired purple transferware and the plates were actually priced reasonably, which was not the case for most items at the sale. The purple transfer ware plates are slightly smaller than our black plates, but that’s the beauty of mixing and matching table top pieces. It adds another layer to the casualness of the table.

  • Royal Stafford Black Transferware Accent Plate (TJ Maxx)
  • Royal Staffordshire Purple Transferware Accent Plate (thrifted)
  • Wonki Ware assorted Black Bowls (Whim House)

In keeping with the relaxed and provincial underpinning the place setting accents are all casual. Pieces are either second hand or handed down, and if an item is new it has an informal feel.

  • LinenMe Black Striped Napkin (Whim House)
  • Galvanized Napkin Ring (Hobby Lobby)

The main floral arrangement contains branches from the back yard spray painted black with some moody fresh flowers. More fresh flowers are also sprinkled in the black bottles with dried florals.

The candle light also adds another layer to the mood. It’s funny how candle light takes on the mood from its surroundings. Here the candle light is sullen while in other places it can be romantic or sometimes cozy.

  • Black Bottles (recycled DIY)
  • Dried Branches, Fresh & Dried Flowers
  • Assorted Black Votives (Whim House)
  • Silver Candle Sticks (thrifted)

Serving pieces are scattered about the table. Serving family style is a relaxed way to present at the table, and one of my personal favorites to use most times, depending on the occasion. Serving dishes are some times just as important to the composition of a table as the place settings.

  • Silver Cake Plate (thrifted)
  • Wonki Ware Assorted Small Black Dishes & Bowls (Whim House)
  • Silver S&P Shakers (thrifted)
  • Assorted Silver Serving Utensils (thrifted)

Of course you can always add small Halloween touches if you want to amp up the holiday vibe. Simple Halloween themed table top pieces can be used, but I would keep it at a minimum to keep the relaxed farmhouse feel prominent.

The small black bottle vases were simply used bottles heading to the recycle bin. With a coat of black spray paint they make fabulous vases, which offer great contrast to the white Dahlias and dried florals. It’s an easy, affordable and stylish hack.

How do feel about the farmhouse Halloween table? This is the last Halloween table for the season, but plenty of Fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas table designs are in the works. It’s a busy entertaining time of the year, and pretty tables are always festive, inviting and welcomed.
