Back to School is an Epic Time of Year
The Fall season is my favorite for many reasons and back to school is one of the many. I always loved going back to school and starting the new academic year. I know, weird kid. But anyway fast forward to today, and I only have one kid left in school. My youngest is a junior in college so that hustle and bustle of school supply shopping, and schedule anticipation and teacher preferences are all behind me. BUT it doesn’t mean I can’t set a pretty table to honor this time of year.

Details for a Cool Back to School Tablescape
What is the iconic teacher gift? A red apple of course! It’s the muse for this table design. The table is set in the kitchen for relaxed and comfortable vibes. The kitchen table is where much homework is done and many projects created. We have all been there, done that,

Plate Stack
When I first planned this table design I knew I wanted red apples to crown the plate stack and thought the wood appetizer plates would be the perfect stage, maintaining organic vibes. When I first placed an apple on the wood the colors did not pop enough for me so I inserted the depression glass bowls in between. The green depression glass ties in with the green in the vine of the plates and the moss chargers. The black striped placemats tie in with the black chalkboards bringing the entire color scheme together.

- Black & ivory ticking fringed placemat {Etsy}
- DIY moss plate charger
- Mimi Thorisson dinner plate {Anthropologie}
- Wooden appetizer plate {Whim House}
- Vintage green depression glass bowl
- Red Apple
Place Setting
The place setting is simple with plaid drinking glasses and flatware casually wrapping in soft wrinkled velvet ribbon. Little details like the ribbon add a layer of special.

- Ralph Lauren Glen Plaid high ball glasses {Wedding Registry}
- Stainless steel flatware {inherited}
- Crushed velvet ribbon
Center Piece
The centerpiece is a collection of assorted books and pencils with plants and a basket of apples. School inspired chalkboards are found between all the centerpiece elements. The centerpiece items evoke school day notions.

- Harvest basket of red apples
- Assorted vintage books
- Assorted pencils
- Upcycled thrifted basket
- DIY moss containers
- Assorted house plants
- Silver tray chalkboards DIY
Closing Thoughts
I have mentioned here before that thrift stores are a great resource for table top pieces, but crafted DIY pieces also create unique options. There are four homemade projects on this table design without it being intentional. As I wrote this blog post I realized there were various projects. It’s so satisfying to use personal creations.

Homemade Tabletop Pieces

Not only is it satisfying to use your own creations, but invariably the pieces will all play well together. When you create your own projects you put your own personal style on them, whether you realize it or not. All these creations will coordinate with your entire design aesthetic. I actually have a new tabletop DIY that I can’t wait to share soon.
Look at my little helper. The look on her face; it’s priceless. lol. She’s so bored. She’s like “are you done yet”? She has so much energy and incessantly wants to play. Love her.

Although I miss my littles, I also enjoy adulting with my big kids. Life is funny that way. Each station in life has its good and its lesser than. Either way my favorite station of the year is Autumn. It officially starts this weekend and there’s so much to look forward to.

I hope you enjoyed this cool back to school tablescape and inspires you to set a table relevant to your station in life. Tables are one of my favorite projects and there’s so many, maybe too many, coming your way soon. See ya next time and thank you for being here.
