too early for spring?

Around this time of year the winter blues set in and I start pining for Spring.  It could be due to the fact that I live in California and the weather is considerably mild during winter, making it feel like Spring is just around the corner.   It is though, right?

Anyway, I tend to focus on my houseplants during this period, focusing on the freshness inside.  I give my plants some pampering by replanting anything that looks root bound or like they have outgrown their home.

I use all sort of containers for my houseplants from baskets to terra cotta to cast iron to…the list is endless really.  I love to use unconventional containers for a bit of interest and contrast.

I also wash the leaves and spray them with leaf shine which gives them a beautiful sheen, which brightens any room.

I use other organic items as well to bring the outside in like lemons from our Myer lemon tree.

Another super easy way to get some spring into your long winter days of course is by sprinkling flowers throughout the house.

Even when the flowers are moody they still breath life into any room.

Actually these black flowers caught my eye at the San Francisco Flower Mart.  I had never seen truly black flowers and I really liked the moodiness vs. the freshness they evoked.  Of course bright sunshine-y flowers are always welcome.

Flowers and plants are a great way to improve the air quality in your home as well, which is just an added bonus.

So besides bringing a smile to my face and brightening my mood they are also good for my body.    Yup, that’s win-win all around

Decorating with plants and flowers is also easy because they play nice with any decor style, trend, color, etc.
Plus other organic items like fruit, moss balls, boxwood forms are also decor friendly any time of year.
