All About my Thrifted Vintage Filigree Metal Frame Finds
Oval Filigree Gold Mirror
The first metal filigree piece I found was this vanity mirror. I don’t remember exactly at which thrift shop since it was a million years ago, when I was consigning vintage wares at two different booths. At that time, I frequented many thrift shops and several were outside my immediate area since I was always searching for more inventory items.
The vanity mirror never sold but I didn’t mind because I was ok keeping it. When I decided to stop doing my vintage booths I had a few liquidation sales at home and also purged some items through online garage sales, etc., but this sweet piece stayed with me.
It now lives in our newly remodeled Master | Primary bathroom as it was intended to be used as a vanity mirror. Before that I used it in many decor vignettes either as a backdrop or as a tray.
Reader Tip: If you are interested in our bathroom remodel you can see more details here {classic timeless bathroom design vision board} and here {master primary bathroom remodel update}. I have not posted the final reveal yet, since I am waiting on a last couple of details. I hope to get to it soon.
Large Ornate Filigree Gold & White Frame
The next piece is a fabulous frame, which you have seen me using lately in many seasonal decor vignettes. I first shared it in our Valentine’s Day mantel styling, framing some sweet vintage doilies.
Framing doiles is a great way to showcase these pretties, and I shared this frame styled a couple of different ways. You can see the whole post here {framed doily artwork DIY}. The detail on the filigree metal frame shines through either way.
I like to use a neutral insert with the frame and let all the gilded relief shine. You can see how I used them below here {mushroom inspired decorative vignette}.
And here {how to use thrift store frames for seasonal decor – St.Patrick’s Day framed artwork & more}.
DO you see all the ornate detailing on the metal filigree? This is why I love these frames. They are so pretty. Here is a closer look to all the detailing on both frames.
Small Delicate Filigree Gold Frame
The smaller frame has a delicate lattice type pattern which is beautiful. I love how intricate and dainty the piece is, but yet it is made out of metal which is a sturdy material. It was perfect for Valentine’s Day decor .
The delicate lattice pattern also paired beautifully with a doily. The composition is super simple yet has so much detail.
I have a feeling you will be seeing these two in many different projects and seasonal decor adventures.
Thoughts About Shopping for Thrifted Vintage Filigree Metal Frames
Unlike other pieces I collect through thrifting, I am not aware of makers or certain brands when it comes to hunting for vintage filigree metal pieces. Anyone I find is fair game, as long as it’s in good condition. If you have any information about this, please let me know in the comments. I would love to learn more.
That being said, I only have these three frames from all my years of thrifting. The delicate pattern on the filigree gets me every time, and I think a gallery wall of these beauties would be amazing.
I cannot say this enough. Ignore the artwork! The artwork, which came in the picture frames was not my jam at all, but I focused on the frame, not necessarily the insert. You see all the different ways I have used these frames and none resemble the original artwork that came inside. See what I mean?
Give yourself the freedom to create your own masterpieces. I hope you enjoyed this installment of Thrifted Goodies and please make sure to visit Rachel and Danielle for more thrifted goodness. Thanks for being here and see you next time. Au Revoir!
