Thrifted Basket Finds, Up-cycles and Styling ideas

Thrifted Goodies Basket finds & up-cycles

If you are new around here, welcome! I am so glad you are here today, and I hope you enjoy yourself. Drop me a comment down below and introduce yourself. I love hearing from you.

The Thrifted Goodies series consists of monthly posts where my friend,  Rachel from the Antiqued Journey, and I share thrift store goodness. Topics might include particular finds, tips, techniques, stylings and general advice about thrift shopping mostly for home decor in general.

Let me briefly review what the Thrifted Goodies is all about. As I mentioned, Rachel, from The Antiqued Journey and I share thrift shopping related posts each and every month. For example, I am sharing all about thrifted basket finds and ways to up-cycle and style them.

Rachel is sharing all about her latest thrifted finds. She always finds the most amaZing pieces! You don’t want to miss her latest post and if you don’t know Rachel yet, make sure to hop over, introduce yourself and check out her newest Thrifted Goodies – Volume 21 – spring decorating with thrift finds.

This basket tray is one of my latest finds, and I love all the irregularities and chunkiness. It cost more than I would want to spend on a thrifted basket, BUT it is actually current in style, which many of the thrift store baskets require a facelift (you’ll see more on that below).

Originally, I had planned to paint this tray white, but as I styled it and used it in different ways, I decided to keep it in its original state. I love the naturalness of the piece and rustic vibes it provides.

I plan to use it not only for decor, but also for serving purposes when entertaining. It’s such a great versatile piece.

This basket I knew I didn’t want to change at all. It was lined for planting and everything. I knew it would be perfect for spring flowers.

It was reasonably priced at $2.50 so I grabbed it immediately. Another customer next to me mentioned right away “yeah, I looked at that- prefect for planting flowers.” You know she was regretting not grabbing it.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Always pick up anything you’re considering at a thrift store, even if you change your mind later and put it back. It prevents another customer from scooping it up while you’re mulling it over.

You will be seeing this super cute planting basket in many vignettes around here through the different seasons.

As soon as I saw this basket I knew I wanted it. I knew I was going to paint it. When I saw that it was $1, I knew it was coming home with me.

I painted it using Annie Sloan chalk paint in Country Grey. Then I added a wooden plaque with an image transfer to give it personality. I will share all the details on how I up-cycled this basket in an upcoming post soon.

This pretty basket can be used in so many different ways. I can see it with flowers and plants and seasonal decor throughout the year.

This was my first basket up-cycle many years ago, and I still use this wall planter to this day. All the details are on the original post if you follow the link below the image.

This is what the basket looked like when I found it, and I believe I paid $2-3 dollars for it. Great bones and it was a fantastic deal.

Currently the basket hangs on one side of the garage door. It’s under an eve so it is protected, but it has weathered slightly, which I am all about.

This basket cornucopia was a great up-cycle with a similar paint treatment as above.

This is what the cornucopia basket looked like when I found it. This piece was brand new with the original tags, and it was just calling for a dress change in my opinion.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Seasonal decor displayed at thrift stores during off season times are usually priced lower than during the appropriate season..

We used the up-cycled cornucopia basket as the centerpiece on our dining room and for our Thanksgiving dinner celebration. I look forward to using this piece through the years.

I have said it before and I will say it again, paint is like a magic wand. It transforms so many things and it’s perfect for thrifted pieces which have seen better days. I have a post dedicated to this here {how to upcycle thrifted items with paint}.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Look at a piece beyond it’s current state & appearance for the potential of what it can be.

Baskets are such a versatile decor piece. From small to large pieces and when new, some can cost a pretty penny. That’s one of the many reasons I am glad they have not seen a huge price increase at thrift stores. This post {how to style your home using baskets & blooms} is also helpful for styling your home with baskets.

Give yourself the freedom to create your own basket masterpieces. I hope you enjoyed this installment of Thrifted Goodies and please make sure to visit Rachel for more thrifted goodness.

Here are some basket shopping ideas I really like if you are interested.

I really like this basket tray; it has a vintage Victorian vibe

I also really love this set of scalloped, handled trays.

These wall hanging baskets have the finish that I aspire to.

Both of theses woven basket vases are in my cart right now; this larger version and this smaller one.

This is a really cute and unique basket for so many things.
