Thanksgiving is creeping up on us and will be here before we know it. I’m not trying to stress you out. Really. Actually quite the opposite. I’m sharing some tables and thoughts I have from past thanksgivings which will hopefully help you and | or inspire you for your own Thanksgiving celebration.
I’m in the process of planning our Thanksgiving table, menu, decor, etc. and part of my process is to always review what I have done in the past.
Last year I filled my dough bowl with some eucalyptus that I got for my birthday and had started to dry with some velvet pumpkins.
Certain things tend to be a staple for particular holidays for me and for Thanksgiving that includes my Johnson Brothers turkey plates, copper chargers and my sterling flatware, which come to think of it I inherited all of them from my parents. Probably why I love using them year after year.
The year before I used a cast iron planter with hydrangeas from the garden with some pheasant feathers.
I flanked the cast iron planter with silver candelabras and pedestal plates with the faux white pumpkins I created from dollar tree ugly, foam pumpkins.
The centerpiece, place cards, linens and other things are part of the creative process from year to year where I play with trends, inspiration and fancy, changing them up.
The year before that I used my dough bowl again with books and a trio of turkeys.
Do you see a pattern? The staple items make the tablescapes all seem similar but then the details change things up.
I don’t like to recreate the wheel every time, but I do like to inject some creative, new detail{s} to keep things interesting for the folks that join us every year, like this chalkboard menu I added above.
The year before that I kept it really simple with three cast iron urns with white pumpkins tucked in a bed of burlap.
I love silhouettes and these were some of my favorite place cards I’ve created.

This last one made me smile because it shows how much my color palette has changed. I seldom use orange pumpkins anymore or the brighter colors of fall.
But what I love even more is that little miss Masterpiece made the place cards. She use to love to make them all the time {a girl after my own heart}, but now at 13 not so much.
But I have faith that in a few years she’ll circle back and we’ll make them together, creating a new tradition.
