Inspiration for the Patriotic Vintage Decor Styling full of Thrifted Finds

The other day I looked around and realized, I hadn’t really decorated for the upcoming 4th of July holiday. I usually create a few vignettes around our home in honor of our nation’s birthday. Next thing I knew, I had a welcoming vignette in the foyer.

The patriotic vintage decor styling came together in a jiffy, and of course it’s full of thrifted finds. In a recent thrift stop I picked up the vintage plate with the colonial dancing couple, which spoke to my patriotic sensibilities. Last year I shared {How to Thrift Shop for Stylish Patriotic Decor}, and I use many of the tips and techniques here. This goes to show you don’t have to spend a ton of time or money to create unique and interesting decor. Come on in, and let’s get our summer Americana on!!

Details of a Patriotic Vintage Decor Styling full of Thrifted Finds

The foyer bombe chest is a favorite spot to decorate with seasonal flair to welcome guests into our home. Entryways are super important since this is the first impression of your home as folks cross your front door threshold into your personal space. None of the decor used in this patriotic vintage inspired styling screams 4th of July, but rather whispers patriotic flair in the most subtle of ways.

Vintage Dishes

The inspiration for the patriotic vintage decor styling are the thrifted plates. The most recent purchase of the colonial dancing couple, dressed in red and blue, gave me all the founding fathers feels. Voila! My gears started spinning, and I incorporated other vintage favorites. This is how my brain works. The plate is stamped “Colonial” and “Made in the USA” on the back. which sealed the deal at the thrift store. There were a few plates, I believe 5 of them, and I considered buying them all for a table setting project, but decided on one accent piece instead. And here we are!

Along with the colonial dancing couple plate, I knew I wanted to pair it with the red transfer-ware plate I picked up at a thrift vintage sale last fall. I originally didn’t pick up the plate, since red isn’t my thing, but then I thought about 4th of July and when I turned the plate over…once again it sealed the deal. Although the plate is made in England, it’s a “Historic America” edition. When I first picked up the plate the design on the front did give me Old West vibes, which now makes sense. It’s paired with a blue plate, which is a Danish piece we picked up in Amsterdam many moons ago. It works for some Red, White & Blue action.

Vintage Books

Thrift stores are a treasure trove of vintage books. If you’ve been here longer than a hot minute, then you know I use vintage books in my decor all the time. They are great accent pieces full of character, texture and culture. I used books with red, blue and gold covers and accents for this vignette.

Not only does the red and blues of the books work for the patriotic vignette, but the subject matter on some of the pieces is a bonus. The titles on the spines are a great detail to tie into the patriotic vibes. “The War of the Revolution”, and “Roosevelt and Hopkins An Intimate History” and “Freedom Road” add an extra layer of detail.

Vintage Milk Glass

Vintage milk glass adds understated charm and lux, making it super versatile. The milky white color and texture lends itself to different looks and aesthetics. Milk glass pieces are included here to corral some old baseballs, which I recently shared how to use baseballs in patriotic decor, evoking America’s favorite pastime feels. A milk glass vase also holds a felted artichoke accent to add texture and an organic touch.

Vintage Floral Frogs

To keep with the vintage vibes a few old flower frogs are used as a base and riser. Flower frogs are great pieces to incorporate into decor vignettes as risers, or holders for even just as interesting accents. Flower frogs range in sizes, shapes, colors and can be used in so many ways. Depending on where you find these pieces in the wild will determine the price point. I was lucky to score a bunch when my friend liquidated her parent’s floral business, but I have found some at thrifts and flea markets as well.

Old Baseballs

I love using our old baseballs for patriotic decor. So much so, I created a recent post {How to use baseballs for patriotic decor}. Baseball is our jam, as far as sports go, as a family. Both Mister and Master Masterpieces played, and I love bringing out all the old, time worn baseballs this time of year. America’s favorite pastime lends itself to big Americana patriotic vibes.

Patriotic Baubles

Do you see those adorable blue and red wooden ornaments? I got them at a local thrift back at Christmas time, and although they do not coordinate with my Christmas decor, I immediately fell in love with them. Not for Christmas, but for this, right here. They gave me patriotic vibes and waited patiently in my decor stash to come out to play. Today is the day! These pretties were 75cents each, if I remember correctly, maybe even 50cents. The point being, they were super inexpensive for a unique seasonal token. Always look at decor at thrifts with an open mind.

Organic Elements

Any decor vignette benefits from natural elements. Included here is the large preserved boxwood sphere sitting on the urn in the background, plus the artichoke orb in the milk glass vase and the small moss ball sitting on the stacked flower frogs. The organic touches add freshness, texture, and interest to the vignette. Plus the organic elements add a pop of color other than there red, white and blue, creating a nice contrast.

Up-cycled Pieces

Adding homespun, crafted pieces to home interiors always adds a unique and personal touch. By using DIY projects it stamps decor with a personal signature style, which is recognizable in your home. The large urn in the background is a thrifted glow up project, which is a staple piece on the chest here most of the year.

Closing Thoughts

Most of the pieces used in this patriotic vintage decor styling are thrifted finds. That makes me so happy and furthermore, I don’t find it looks less than with second-hand treasures. The only newish piece is the red, white & blue felted garland hanging on the mirror, which grounds the theme and brings the eye up.
