I love and prefer to create my own decor when possible because it makes the items unique and very personal. You might have to invest more time but it’s worth it and the majority of times it’s more inexpensive.
I inherited my crafting heart from my mom. I keep up the tradition and I love crafting & creating my own, new items, which I hope I pass on to Miss Masterpiece. I love the satisfaction of creating something one of a kind, all my own and personal.
I want to share some things that are fall related or lend themselves to this time of year so you are inspired to create them with your own personal spin.
This is such a great and versatile garland that will take your through fall and right through winter as well. It pairs great with pumpkins & gourds to evergreens & ornaments.
All the step by step instructions to create your own are on the original post.
I just ducked into Hobby Lobby really quick yesterday since I was searching the entire county for a grid paper notebook for my daughter for school, but that’s another story for another time, anyway, they carried a burlap garland like this with no pine cones for $14.99. This probably cost me a couple of dollars and I love it so much more because I made it.
So it’s no secret I love sheet music and I use it any chance I get. I created this “gather” banner last year using a leaf form that I strung on ribbon.
Once again the instructions are on the attached original post. You can also see how I’ve used sheet music in other ways on this post:
This was a super easy and fast project using an image transfer method onto a wooden piece i bought from the target $ bins. I wanted it really simple and neutral but you an get as fancy and colorful as you please.
So this wood piece cost me $3- {i know, i know, i always pick the non $1- items from the $1 bin but it’s still a heck of a deal} and on that same trip to Hobby Lobby I spied something similar for $19.99; even with a 40% coupon I made out like a bandit.
Using dollar tree foam pumpkins I breathed new life into these beauties using several different techniques from chalkboard & spray paint to book pages and to moss. Check out what these puppies looked like before I altered them.
I walk you through my processes on the original post. I love how they all turned out and bring them out every year.
I am already thinking of new ways I can alter some more this year. Stay tuned and hope to share soon.
I created these aged bottles with Frenchy labels last fall. The brown color just evoked a fall feel to me but truth be told I’ve used them all year long.
You can use them with evergreens or lit branches over the holidays or fresh blooms in the spring. These are actually perfect for a bathroom vignette. All the directions on how I created them are also on the original post.
Oh how pretty all of these are! I’m not sure exactly why … I guess because it feels so homey and welcoming but I especially like your gathering banner.
Saw this on the Reader Tip Tuesday link party and so glad I did. Each idea is fabulous! And I’m in love with those brown and white plates on the mantel. AAAHHHH!!! Seriously beautiful.
I am a a fall obsessed music teacher and decorating blogger, so I absolutely love your sheet music garland I must make one! Beautiful ironstone and brown transferware too!
Am printing total post so I don’t forget all these goodies, wonderful , inexpensive Fall decorations. Love them all.
I know, pin them but then I still forget is why I print projects I really want to make for a special to do folder I keep on coffee table. I know myself too well is why have developed that habit of printing out posts I love. If I don’t make all the ideas have folder ready for next years projects to start on. I love to make new decorations each year, so fun. Give ones I don’t want to daughter or whomever. These are so delightful, love your mantel.
Have lovely weekend
Was going to print out post but none of the photos are showing up and that is what I need. Is there a reason photos won’t show?

Sweet MJ, what lovely fall crafts! I’m a huge fan of garlands and love both of yours:) I might just make that burlap one, I already have the burlap! I had to laugh when I read about your frustration trying to find a graphing notebook for your daughter! I remember going through the same thing a few years ago and feel your pain:) Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
