woodland autumn mantel

So since nothing can stay the same around here for too long I transitioned the living room mantel to evoke a more autumnal feel.

I kept the brown bottles I showed you a couple of weeks ago layered with some old books & softly turning hydrangeas.

And added these wooden pumpkins I got at Pier One.  O absolutely l.o.v.e. them.  l.o.v.e.Woodlad atel3
So beautifully rustic and versatile.  I could go on and on and on…

From there I added some of my mushrooms.  Have I mentioned that I have a love affair with mushrooms here before?

I don’t think I’ve mentioned on my blog my fascination for mushrooms.  I like the botanical, nature inspired ones, not the fantasy lady bug looking ones.  I could actually do a whole post on mushrooms alone.

I did not intend to make a “woodland” mantel per se, but when I took a step back to look at the mantel as I was working on it, it struck me that it had a “woodsie|forrest” feel to it.

It’s tranquil and soothing to me for whatever reason.  Although it has a lot going on it’s cohesive and nature inspired so it relaxes me.

I created the {gather} banner by printing the letters on some sheet music and cutting it out using the leaf template below with deckle edge scissors.  From there I inked the edges of the leaves using a stamp pad and strung them using twine on some ribbon I had on hand.

This is the leaf pattern I used.  The font name is imprint MT shadow and the size is 200 pt.

I had my first pumpkin spice latte of the season and wore a sweater yesterday, albeit thin it was still a sweater.  And I was broiling after lunch ‘cuz the temps spiked again, but it was a start.

The morning was cool and actually felt like fall.  I took an outing with some girlfriends to the new Anthropologie in our area that contains Terrain in it too.  It was absolutely gorgeous and inspirational.  I will share more details next week.
happy autumn !
