You already know you like the look and feel of said designer, you just simply adapt it to a table top design. I’m using one of my favorites and sharing how to set a Burberry inspired table setting. By using the patterns, colors and textures of a designer’s look you can set a pretty themed table. Burberry speaks to me personally, but use a look you like and fits your style. Make the table styling yours!

Inspiration for the Burberry Table Styling

When you set as many tables as I do, you might run out of themed ideas when a table isn’t centered around a holiday, season or event. I’m looking at all you tablescape enthusiasts out there. I see you. I have a solution for you today to simply look at fashion styles which always call your name and set the table with that particular style in mind.

Details of the Burberry Inspired Table Styling

The classic Burberry check is iconic and renown all over the globe. This is a fun way to inspire a unique table setting with a look you already know appeals to you. Look around you and you’ll be surprised what you find. My hope is that this inspires you to set a whimsically stylish table in your home.

Plate Stack

The plate stack stays in neutral tones to compliment the tradional Burberry colors and patterns. A ribbon napkin ring tops off the plate stack with the iconic check pattern.

The silverware is a matched set keeping with British formality while the glassware is mixed and matched to add to the whimsical aspect of the table styling. This allows the table to fit the theme but with a touch of playfulness to relax the table and set a jovial tone.

Centerpiece

The Burberry style scarf sets the tone for the theme and grounds the centerpiece. Using scarfs, throws, blankets and other unconventional linen choices for tables is a great designer hack. It extends your table linen repertoire and provides unique looks.

Extra Details

Sideboards, console tables and buffets are also great spaces to further decorate, ground the theme and provide added server ware space. These surfaces are perfect for side dishes, a dessert bar or beverage station. Serving pieces at the ready at the table are also convenient for guests to help themselves and relax the atmosphere.

Tips & Recommendations to Keep In Mind When Setting the Table

Curate the Designer Theme

The designer will determine colors and patterns, which are part of the look you are going for. You can use pieces or take a pattern and apply it to items you might already own. For example, I use our RH Glen Plaid glassware since it has a plaid pattern reminiscent of the Burberry classic check look. The ribbon is a Burberry styled pattern, which worked perfectly as napkin rings. Think outside the box and use pieces in unexpected ways, like the scarf as a table runner.

Layer Textures

Layering textures on the table creates a rich look. Layer linens like the scarf on the table cloth and the check ribbon on the lace trimmed napkin. Flowers and greenery always add natural texture to table settings which is fresh and soothing. The fringe on the scarf adds movement and interest to the table centerpiece.

Shop your Home First

I’m a big proponent of shopping your home first and looking for decor and pieces you can use in unexpected ways. For a designer look start by looking in your closet and see what jumps out at you. The unexpected always makes for a special touch. The plates are our everyday dishes, which goes to show you don’t need two buy anything fancy.

Amp the Ambiance

Use details which reinforce the theme and bring it to life. Burberry is a British brand and the Brits are know for their formal propensities and customs. The silver candelabras and other silver pieces add to that air of traditions. Candlelight always sets a festive tone and is reinforced here with the tapers on the candelabras and the votives, adding twinkling lights high and low on the table.

Thrifting for the Win

You don’t need to spend a fortune to set a pretty and festive table. You can always find table top pieces at garage sales, thrifts and flea markets. Some of the pieces on this table are thrifted, including the silver tray chargers, assorted silver centerpiece trays and the silver rimmed goblets. Much of my silver plate collection has been curated through years of thrifting, and I’ve also found some interesting glassware as well. Thrifted pieces are not only economical but environmental sound, which add character and charm to any interior.

DIYs are your Friend

Creating your own decor and table accents creates a charming homespun atmosphere which is unique and has your personal style. Besides adding character, DIY pieces tend to be more economical than newly bought options. Here the place cards, ribbon napkin rings and improvised scarf table runner are all homespun creations.
