how to make a holiday candle ring from a fall burlap leaf wreath

I love to create my own seasonal decor, and when it can preform double duty it’s just simply a bonus. You are in for a treat today since not only am I showing how to convert the leaf wreath to a holiday candle ring, but I am also sharing how you can make your own burlap leaf wreath. I am thinking next year I can use this burlap pine candle ring all the way from fall through the holidays into the long January winter days.

about the burlap leaf wreath

I first gave you a peak at the burlap leaf wreath last week in this post {Thanksgiving welcome ideas}. I had wanted to make this earlier in the season, but alas time just got away from me, so I cranked it out for our Thanksgiving festivities.

Since I had just created it, and barely had time to enjoy it, I didn’t want to put it away in the fall bins in the attic. I decorate with tons of pine cones during the Christmas season so I thought if I added greenery to the wreath I could easily transition it into a burlap pine candle ring for Christmas decor.

I kept the wire picks on the leaves so you can bend and juj the leaves when styling it.

Since the leaf wreath is on the smaller side, mine measures 10-inches wide, I thought it would make a great candle ring for a wide candle. With some added greenery the wreath immediately gives off Christmas vibes rather than fall feels.

With a few small steps the fall wreath becomes a Christmas burlap pine candle ring. I started with a round handled tray I found thrifting not too long ago. Make sure to pop back in tomorrow for the next installment of Thrifted Goodies where I share fun ways to use thrifted silver in your holiday decor.

Using the silver tray as your base, simply place the wreath, aka: the candle ring, in the center of the tray. Start adding greenery around the wreath to accent the leaves.

I used a combination of faux and real greenery. The faux pieces simply fell off the garland around the picture window in the living room so I stuck them in the wreath. The real greenery were clippings from our Christmas tree when Mr. M trimmed it. Then add a candle & you are good to go.

I simply inserted the greenery between the leaves and other elements on the wreath and with all the nooks and crannies the greenery just simply sticks organically. The greenery can simply be discarded at the end of the season, keeping the fall wreath intact.

I wrapped a pine cone burlap ribbon around the candle to tie the “look” all together. Full disclosure here, I’ve actually had this ribbon for a few years now. I liked it and simply bought it with no purpose or reason besides that it spoke to me. Fast forward to now, and it fits this styling perfectly. I believe we all have a certain signature style and if you stay true to what you like it all comes together.

I hope some of this inspires you for the season and maybe helps you repurpose some of your decor. Here are some pieces which might help you create the burlap pine candle ring look.

I opted for a battery operated candle for this styling since an open flame around real greenery can be a safety hazard. This way it’s worry free plus the candle is on a timer, turning on and shutting off automatically. Easy Peasy.
