fall decorating – the anticipation

Fall decorating the anticipation

Ok, so today is august 16th.  That is over a month away from the autumnal equinox on September 22nd.  And although it is not sweltering heat the way it usually is around this time of year we are still enjoying over 80o weather.  Needless to say I am NOT in a very fallish mood.at.all.

That’s not to say I’m not thinking about fall decor and projects.  How can a girl not when it’s everywhere we look.  I took master masterpiece back to school shopping the other day and I had to quickly peek at the pottery barn and williams-sonoma at the mall.  Both were displayed in full fall glory of course.

So what happens to me?  i start thinking about fall vignettes I want to create.  and autumnal tables I want to set.  And projects I want to craft.  And seasonal recipes II want to bake.  I think you get the idea.

As always in the initial part of my creative process I like to look back and see what I have done in the past.  I keep a celebrations journal that helps me organize main events and of course pictures speak a thousand words BUT this blog has become the ultimate resource for me.

I love to stroll down memory lane and look at what we did last year, the year before that and so on.  It’s funny because in doing so I ran across a few tablescapes and projects that I distinctly remember I was not totally pleased about at the time but now looking back I actually love and appreciate.

We are our own worst critics.  we really need to be kinder to ourselves {at least I do} and simple embrace the season for what it has to offer and do what makes us happy and brings a smile to our face.

Through this initial review process I think I will be going simple this year through the holidays into the new year.  Too much stuff has started to truly stress me out.  I tend to gravitate to the organic things anyway.

Plants, flowers and nature’s bounty as a whole is what my eye is always drawn to whether it’s in a picture, or a store or in real life.  of course a girl always needs some baubles for fun {wink} but I am in a decluttering and purging state of mind that has reflected in my decorating this year.

Although I haven’t necessarily started decorating and nesting for fall yet, I have started putting summer away.  transitional baby steps i call it.  I probably won’t start fall around here until after labor day.  Yup, pure traditionalist here in certain regards.

Have you started your fall mojo?  Or are you hanging on to summer for as long as you can?
