Christmas in July 2020

Christmas in July 2020

I have never understood the Christmas in July phenomenon.  But as I sit here working on my blog with the Hallmark channel on in the background {please don’ t judge} with Christmas movies running on repeat, I cannot help but think about Christmas-time tasks and activities.

Christmas in July 2020-1

Although we are a bit away from the Christmas festivities it’s not a bad time to start thinking about Christmas prep.  I have a few crafts in mind that I would like to do for this year and I have started to search for and order some of the supplies.  For example, I would like to add to my book print collection I have shared in the past.

You can find more details on the link above.  I have already added more paperbacks from thrift stores to my arsenal to have at the ready when the mood strikes.    I have also recently ordered some more Miss Mustard Seed German Glass glitter.  I absolutely LOVE this stuff.  The way it patinas over time is everything!

I used it to coat these dollar tree snowflakes, which I absolutely love.  Do you see the patina on the edges?  Love!  The glitter took a pack of 10 for $1 plastic snowflakes to a vintage looking ornament I will treasure for life.  I’ve used this glitter for so many different projects and every time it’s worth every single penny!  It’s been sold out often in the past hence why I am preparing to have it on hand now before the holiday crafting rush.

Bottle brushes is another favorite foil of mine for Christmastime.  I wanted to share this great little craft I made a few years back that is a great addition to a Holiday tablescape, a great personal gift for a friend or just a fun decoration for your Holiday kitchen.

You can find the tutorial on the link above.  Bottle brushes are on my list of supplies I will acquire for crafting over the holidays along with various other supplies.   Getting organized now will hopefully help the stress level in November | December.  I am doing much of this shopping online since much of in store shopping nowadays is a bit different than in the past {I guess depending on where you live}.

As far as Christmas in July goes, my initial instinct was to presume it was just a marketing strategy.  Well with a little bit of help from google I discovered some interesting facts .  1In the USA it started in a girls’ camp 84 years ago on July 24th and 25th in 1933 at Keystone Camp in Brevard, North Carolina.  2In other countries in the Southern Hemisphere where winter is during our summertime months they started celebrating Christmas in July since it’s the middle of winter for them.  I guess both make sense to me a bit but I was born in Uruguay and I never heard of Christmas in July there.  C’est la vie!
