apple cider mimosas

Apple cider mimosa

This is for all the bubble lovers out there.  I love a good champagne cocktail and mimosas always evoke a celebration or vacation vibe to me.  Traditional mimosas use orange juice but we injected a little seasonal twist, using apple cider instead of orange juice for the Fall season.

A few years ago we hosted some parent’s at our house on Halloween night while our tweens & teens trick-or-treated in the neighborhood.  I knew some of the parents, but others not so well so I wanted to make sure I covered all my bases, but still remained festive.

I offered these apple cider mimosas, which could also be made without any sparkling wine if that is your preference.  In preparing for the latter choice I made sure to get the best apple cider I could find so it would still be an elevated beverage if you chose to go sans bubbles.

The funny part is everyone enjoyed them and yes everyone wanted bubbles.  I am still glad I chose to hunt for a good apple cider since it really makes the drink that much better.  Just like any recipe you want to use the best ingredients you can get your hands on.

On that note though, you do not need to splurge on the sparkling wine|champagne since you are mixing.  An average | middle of the road bubbly is perfect for any beverage you are going to use mixers.  If you are drinking bubbles alone…that’s another story.

For traditional mimosas we have used Prosecco since the citrus cuts through the sweetness of the Prosecco.  Since cider tends to be on the sweet side already I opted for a brut sparkling wine.  I do not like overly sweet beverages, leaning toward the tart side on my elixirs of choice.  That being said, if you’re a sweet gal or guy, Prosecco might be the way to go for you.  😉

Since I always say you eat or drink with your eyes first, it’s all about presentation.  For a garnish you can use an apple slice or cinnamon stick.  I also rimmed our glasses with a sugary cinnamon garnish.  You can use one or all of the above choices.

For the drink itself we use about 1/3 cider to 2/3 bubbly but others use 1/2-1/2 depending on taste and preference.  There is no wrong or right way just your way.

It’s a festive beverage, which can be enjoyed throughout the entire Fall season.  I set our cocktails in the front sitting area, which is fairly new and can read about here and here.  We sprinkled some fun all around for the upcoming Halloween Holiday.

Although my children are too old to trick-or-treat {one is actually in college and currently under quarantine since his roommate tested positive for Covid, so no Halloween for him} but we are keeping it festive over here for all the littles in the neighborhood.
