5 easy ways to DIY pumpkins

It’s the perfect time to start Fall crafting before the calendar officially turns to the Autumn season. Here are 5 super easy ways to DIY pumpkins for your fall decor.

It’s back to school time and to me that always signifies Fall. I am not ready to go full blast into Autumn yet SO we thought we would share some fantastic ways you can create some pumpkin decor to add to your upcoming Fall festivities and decorations.

These have been created through the years, and they are pulled out year after year. They are very much loved and cherished and add a personal touch to our Fall decor. They are all pretty easy techniques, beginning with inexpensive pumpkins so you’re not spending loads of time or money on complicated projects.  Have fun and make them your own!

PAINT

Paint is an easy technique to spruce up any project from rooms, to furniture to smaller DIYs like these.  Various sized pumpkins were spray painted in white and Spanish moss, twigs and drawer pulls were used as stems and accents.  The stem materials were adhered using a hot glue gun once the paint had fully dried.  My rule of thumb is to let paint projects dry overnight, outside.

MOSS

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you are all too aware that I like all things moss. So covering some pumpkin forms with sheet moss was a no brainer around here. I have a feeling many of you like moss as much as I do.

GLITTER

Glitter is a great way to add a little bit of bling to your decor. Although I am a rustic gal at heart most of the time, German glass glitter gets.me.every.single.time. These glitter pumpkins were actually inspired by some Pottery Barn pumpkins a few years back.

The great thing about all these pumpkins is that they mix and match well and play nice together.

DECOUPAGE

I used book print pages on this pumpkin but you could use decoupage medium with any pretty paper you like. Colorful paper napkins or scrapbook book paper or wrapping paper are also great alternatives for decoupage projects. Just make sure the weight of the paper you choose is not too heavy, otherwise it can be cumbersome to work with.

As finishing touches I used ribbons and leaf pins I had in my craft stash as the stem, which add great texture and detail. Remember there are more detailed instructions on the original post.

CHALKBOARD MEDIUM

Chalkboard paint is always a great way to personalize a craft project. Simply apply a few coats of chalkboard paint, letting it fully dry between coats and Viola!

I added a drawer pull again for the stem and some twine for an added detail. The funnest part is that you can use your chalkboard pumpkin from early fall, through Halloween all the way to Thanksgiving with different sentiments.

I hope this puts you in an Autumnal state of mind. I know some of you are already there but others might need some inspiration. It’s still too hot in northern California to really embrace Fall yet. Are you already celebrating Fall or are you holding on to Summer?
