Fall is in full swing around here, and I was inspired to style a little fall vignette in a vintage suitcase. It’s super easy to add seasonal touches to your home in different ways without dressing up every corner of your home. This vintage suitcase fall styling vignette was a fun project to put together.
I tucked this fall vignette in a corner in our family room to inject some fall goodness. The idea of using a vintage suitcase was inspired by Lora Bloomquist from her {9 fun ways to decorate with Vintage Suitcases} post. If you haven’t read her post, check it out, it’s full of great ideas and inspiration.
Lora’s post inspired me to dress up this vintage train case with some seasonal goodies. The idea of using a suitcase is genius. It’s similar to the notion of using a tray or basket to corral all the pieces of a vignette.

I liked the idea of using a train case rather than a larger suitcase since it’s petite and has a compact footprint. The smaller scale makes it easier to style and less likely to get junky or messy with too much stuff
I started with a vintage French green enamel coffeepot and some vintage books. Feathers tucked into the coffee pot and a bunch of preserved florals adds organic vibes.
A green velvet pumpkin and a striped green pumpkin are tucked in because, uhh, it’s the season of the pumpkin. A photo frame in the background adds interest and frames (no pun intended) the lid of the suitcase.
Of course, I had way more things that could fit in the train case (remember what I said above ?). Luckily I had a lower shelf to also style to complete the vintage suitcase vignette.

The vintage plaid thermos I thought tied in nicely with the coffee pot theme. And of course the plaid candle holder compliments the thermos. Plaids, tartans, etc. always catch my eye. Plus add the green color palette, and I am smitten. Vintage books are great risers plus add more texture and interest.
The green berry orb and the feather wreath in the background add wonderful texture. And of course we cannot forget the season with a mini velvet pumpkin.
To give the entire vignette a backdrop, I added a thrifted gold frame and draped a felt pumpkin garland to give it a finishing touch.
details about styling a train case
The train case is deep so I used a few riser tricks to elevate items so they are more visible. The body of the enamel coffee pot sits on a book to give it more height.
The top of the coffee pot, which I removed to insert the feathers, sits on a little pedestal plate. Otherwise, the top would not be visible at all. I love that it’s a two piece top with the built in strainer to brew coffee back in the day.
Although you can not see these items since they are tucked into the suitcase I still used items that I would have used if you could see them. I actually chose the items before I was certain whether they would be visible or not.
I hope this brought a bit of fall inspiration to your day. Maybe you can take away a small detail to use in your own home or maybe the whole idea spoke to you. Lora’s post spoke to me, and it led to this fun seasonal styling project.
