I know many do not decorate for Valentine’s Day and I totally get it. Keep in mind, you don’t have to go out and buy pink and red baubles with a side of hearts and cupids though, BUT you can inject some romance and love with words here and there.
If you own a chalkboard of any sort it’s the perfect foil to add some special Valentine’s words.
I love chalkboard paint since it allows you to turn many surfaces into unique chalkboards. I created these wooden slabs a few years ago for some whimsy table decor. All I needed to make this a “Valentines’s Day” table were some choice words.
“Love”, “Kiss”, “Hugs” and “XOXO” are all words that evoke the sweetness and sentiments behind the Valentine’s celebration.
The great thing about the chalkboard pieces is that you can adapt them to any holiday and | or celebration. I also created this bunting/garland years ago using burlap and chalkboard paint, which you can find all the detailed instructions here{Christmas outside & DIY banner}.
Do you spy the wreath above? It’s the heart wreath I just upcycled last week. In keeping with the word decor, another easy way to add Valentines details is to use cards to express the sentiments. You can use an old Valentine Card if you get them and keep them. This vintage card is a small detail that adds the emotion to this vignette in our foyer.
You can get as creative as you want. For example I used a reproduction Bingo card from my craft supply stash here.
Look around your house. You never know what you might find, like this pillow from my daughter’s old bedroom which was in the donation pile. I used it for some Valentine’s “love” before we got rid of it a few years ago.
If you play Scrabble, the tiles are a favorite way to inject some words into your decor.
It’s a super simple idea and it doesn’t cost a penny. You can adapt it for any holiday or celebration.
I hope some of these ideas inspire you to add some Valentine’s Day touches around your house. All these sweet words coupled with fresh flowers and some candle light adds warmth to the long winter days leading up to February 14th. 💛💌💖
