I love tole candlesticks and one of my favorite shops, Terrain, always has seasonal metal candlesticks with flowers and leaves. I love them, but not always the price points. When I saw these metal candle sticks at the Dollar Tree, I thought about adding creepy leaves to create a similar look with a Halloween theme.

I didn’t find any metal leaves or embellishments at the Dollar Tree that given day, but I saw these glitter bats and a light bulb went off. This could not be a simpler DIY, and these bat candelabra can be dressed up in many ways for Halloween.

Crafting Pro Tip: As I recommend with all my projects, read all the instructions through once and then re-read everything again. This way, you are familiar with everything you need, including supplies and tool, plus you know what to expect.

If you can’t find the black candlesticks in your local Dollar Tree or if you don’t have a DT near you, candle sticks can always be found at thrifts stores or garage sales. Don’t worry if they aren’t black, since you can simply spray paint them before you add the bat embellishments.

If bats aren’t your thing you can always add any halloween inspired motif, including witches or spiders or cats or… You get the idea. Use whatever speaks to your Halloween sensibilities and make them yours.

I found three different sized candle sticks, but you can make as many as you want. One statement piece can be as impactful as multiple pieces as I created here. I prefer odd numbers when I decorate so finding three different sizes sealed the deal for me on this project.

You can decorate the DIY bat candelabras in many ways. You can use plain candles, allowing the candle sticks to shine or you can use Halloween themed candles to amp up the holiday feels. I’m using these flameless candles I shared here {faux candle tip}. I also used Spanish moss to decorate the candelabras, but you can also use stretchy spider webs or creepy cloth.

When you place the bats on the candlestick make sure to alter directions and placement so that it creates interest and movement from one candelabra to the next. Since the glitter bats I found had four to the pack, but I only DIYed three candle sticks, I chose to add two to the tallest candelabra. I actually think this is a good thing since it might have looked too spaced out with only one compared to the other candle sticks.

Whenever I use a hot glue gun I prefer to protect myself with silicone finger tips. I highly recommend them since they help grip the project and secure the bond better, while protecting yourself.

I’m not 100% sure where these bat candelabras will land, but I have a couple of Halloween stylings brewing, where they will work perfectly. I will share over the next couple of weeks as we count down the days to Halloween.

Are you a Halloween person? I’ve always loved Halloween. I love a good who done it suspense filled saga as well as scary movies. I don’t like gory, but I’m all about the macabre. As a kid of course you love Halloween, then as a mom of littles it was fun to enjoy it through their eyes, and now? Well, I still love it. I don’t decorate as much as I use to, but I still like to add touches here and there. I hope this DIY bat candelabra project inspires you to create a spooky touch for your home.
