Welcome to Styled 2 Ways – Summer Decor Edition
Styled 2 Ways is a collaboration between myself, MaryJo @Masterpieces of my Life, & Susan @From the Bay to the Beach. Two different points of view for a particular styling, project or concept are shared. A guest host sometimes includes another styling for triple the fun. We publish on the 2nd Wednesday of the month @ 4AM Pacific Time. Thank you for joining us; it’s lovely to have you here.

Although Susan and I both like many of the same things, we both have unique styles of our own, and we want to share how the same idea can be expressed in different ways. Both ways are equally as fantastic, and appreciating other unique takes on the same idea expands our own personal style.

Inspiration Behind the Vintage Summer Rose Mantelscape
If you’re regular reader I’m sure you remember these rose tole candlesticks I recently crafted. If you’re not a regular reader and are new around here, welcome. Please drop me a comment down below and introduce yourself. This high end dupe is the inspiration behind this summer decor styling, and here we are.

I love how these Anthro inspired candle sticks turned out, and I thought they deserved a bit of the limelight. The rose theme just snowballed from there and sprinkled itself across the mantel shelf. Although the metal rose candlesticks are new, they are crafted with a vintage feel, which is complimented with the other vintage and heirlooms pieces. If you like the look of the tole rose candle sticks and want to make these for yourself you can read all about it on the tutorial post:

How to Create an Intentional Mantel Styling for Summer with a Vintage Rose Theme
Although the fireplace might be underutilized during the summer months, the mantel shelf always begs to be decorated. A home tells a story and the mantle is simply too beautiful a stage to leave empty. A summer mantle styled around a vintage rose theme is a romantic and personal way to transition our space for the warmer season.

MJ Insider Vintage Decor Tip: What exactly is a curated home?
Intentionally seeking and selecting meaningful pieces for your home, which reflects your personal story and style, rather than simply filling your space. These pieces are carefully collected over time, or perhaps inherited, or might have a memory behind them and all together they tell a story- your story!
Create an Asymmetric – Organic Arrangement
Lean into varying heights, odd numbers, and a relaxed layering of objects that feels discovered over time rather than staged. Nothing needs to match, but simply compliment each other and help tell the story.

Use a Soft, Muted Palette
Dusty pinks, creams, antique whites, and warm greens that echo garden roses at their most romantic help tell the story of a magical cottage rose garden. For a slightly more dramatic vintage feel, deep burgundy or oxblood accents add richness. Avoid overly bright or saturated colors, which can undercut the soft, timeworn quality of the aesthetic. The soft palette offers something quieter and more enduring than the bolder, brighter decor of the season.

Mix Textures, Patterns and Patinas
An old painting canvas, vintage porcelain pieces, dried florals, gold gilding all bring depth and authenticity. Layering textures and finishes adds a richness to the overall design which pulls the eye in. Mixing and matching all these elements creates a charming and cultured look, which draws people in wanting to get closer to touch and feel the emotion.

Showcase Collected Objects with Provenance
The simple beauty of a vintage-styled mantle lies in pieces which have been gathered over time, not ordered from a single catalog or store. Layered pieces which have been passed on from other generations or found on treasure hunting expeditions add charm and character, which is distinctly unique.

Lean into the Theme – Roses
Roses are used in multiple forms, including an heirloom painting, dried bouquet, vintage china plates, dried rosebuds, and DIY metal candlesticks. All theses elements come together to layer the theme and tell the story of a vintage rose garden without making it feel contrived. Other options include pressed botanical prints, rose-motif ceramics, fresh cottage roses and embroidered linens.

The Story Behind all the Pieces

Use What You Love & Shop Your Home First
This might seem obvious, but always lean into your personal style and preferences. I’m a vintage loving soul, hence why I love to use vintage pieces and inject nostalgic vibes. My home is a clear reflection of who I am. I didn’t buy anything new here, but simply looked around my home and chose pieces to tell the Summer Vintage Rose Mantel story. I’m a big proponent of shopping your home first. Look around your home and search for pieces to use and reuse, extending their purpose and worth.

MJ Insider Decor Tip:
Move decor around your home to create a new and fresh look without spending money on new pieces. Use old pieces in unexpected ways to create a new emotion and feel. This provides more bang for your decor buck.

Closing Thoughts on the Mantel Styling for Summer with a Vintage Rose Theme ~ Conclusion
A summer fireplace mantle doesn’t need to compete with the bold, bright decor of the season. Instead it can offer something quieter and more enduring. By anchoring your display around a vintage rose theme, you create a focal point that feels both timeless and fresh. This is not a look you buy all at once. It’s a look you collect. And that’s exactly what makes it so special.

FAQs – Collected Home Summer Mantel Styling
Q1. What types of roses work best for a vintage mantle display?
A1. Dried roses are especially well-suited to a vintage aesthetic — they have a faded, romantic quality that feels authentically old. Garden roses in dusty pink, blush, or ivory tones work beautifully fresh. You can also incorporate rose imagery through antique botanical prints, rose-patterned transferware, or embroidered textiles.
Q2. Where can I find vintage pieces for a curated mantle display?
A2. Antique markets, estate sales, and charity shops are the best hunting grounds. Online, look to Etsy for genuine vintage finds, or explore local Facebook Marketplace listings. The key is to shop slowly and intentionally — the most beautiful collected homes are built piece by piece over time, not assembled overnight.
Q3. What colors pair well with a rose theme for a summer mantle styling?
A3. Dusty rose, blush, cream, antique white, sage green, and warm taupe are all ideal. For a slightly more dramatic vintage feel, deep burgundy or oxblood accents add richness. Avoid overly bright or saturated colors, which can undercut the soft, timeworn quality of the aesthetic.
