Charming Porcelain Thrifted Finds
Charming vintage porcelain pieces can be found at thrifts, garage sales, flea markets and more. I’ve collected a handful of pretty porcelain pieces, which I enjoy using in unique ways. These dainty porcelain pieces are precious all on their own, but by transforming them into unique decor accents elevates them to a whole new level.

Different shapes, profiles and patterns add interest when displayed together. Look for details which appeal to you and compliment your decor personal style. The dainty floral designs with gold accents drew me to these pieces in particular, which is perfect for spring inspired decor.
Thrifting Pro Tip: Make a list of items you would like to find while thrifting on your phone, and you will always have the list with you whenever you pop into a thrift. Update the list regularly as you find treasures and seek others. Have fun!
Spring Inspired Decor Accents
Assemble supplies in bulk and start layering elements until you achieve a composition which is pleasing to the eye.

How to Create Spring Decor Accents
Layer for Texture, Color, Interest…
Layer the decor accents from the bottom, building up and spilling over the edges of the porcelain containers. You want to create a tiny vignette, which tells a story and creates an emotion.

Create Foundation
Stuff the inside of the containers with filler to create a foundation or stage for the mini vignette. I used floral foam to fill the inside of my containers. Other suggestions are excelsior, scrap paper, cotton balls, etc. Look around and use something you have on hand, it’s not necessary to purchase anything new.

Once the container is filled almost to the top add a layer of moss to hide the mechanics and create a pretty base for the other decor to rest on. I used assorted mosses, including reindeer moss, Spanish moss and lichen moss.
Select a Theme
Look at you decor accent options and determine a theme. These are small containers so you want a focal point and a couple of complimentary pieces. I have a few themes, including a bunny, bird, and floral themes to name a few.

The theme will determine a focal piece, which in turn will determine the complimentary accents. You want all the pieces to work together and make a mini picture story.
Add Focal & Complimentary Accents
Start by adding the focal piece first to give it a position of prominence. From there add other smaller accents which compliment the focal piece and tell a story. For example, I included a moss bunny with eggs and leaves to provide a spring Easter feel.

On another piece I included a bird with a nest with eggs and feathers providing a pure spring vibe. Dried florals with a vintage floral frog gives all the spring emotions. Play around and have fun building a spring creation.
Insert Graphics
This isn’t necessary and only if you want words to evoke the emotions on top of the vignette. You can include a vintage postcard, seed packet, a crafted tag or find a free printable on line.

Add Finishing Touch
A finishing touch is always the cherry on top. A strategic ribbon, bow or tassel give the decor accent the last bit of pizzazz.

Thrifting Pro Tip: Look at thrift store finds while thinking outside the box.Sometimes you like an item, but don’t need to use it for its intended purpose. Make it yours.
Tips and Recommendations to Keep in Mind
Scale & Size
When assembling your decor accents keep in mind the size of the containers you’ll be using. You want accent pieces that won’t overwhelm the container and at the same time you don’t want items that will get lost and overlooked.

Permanent vs. Temporary
The pieces I created today are only temporary for this season. I will disassemble them when I’m done with them for the season, allowing me to repurpose them for a different project and look. This stretches decor and it’s also easier to store. If you want a permanent decor piece I suggest gluing the elements down for a secure bond.

Variety & Interest
The porcelain pieces I selected today include a variety, including a creamer, a few bowls, a handled soup dish and even a DIY pedestal plate. All the pieces coordinate in the general look but are all different patterns

Know Your Makers
These are not collectibles in particular for me. But if you are a collector of fine porcelain pieces, knowing makers is beneficial. I was not concerned about the fabricator for these pieces necessarily, since I simply picked them up because I love the look and how they compliment each other.

You can see how these were fabulous containers as shabby chic candles here {How to DIY Candles using Vintage Porcelain for Mother’s Day}.
Thrifting Pro Tip: Know your makers and brands so you can identify a fabulous find immediately. Knowing about brands and makers helps in determining fair pricing. Certain makers warrant a higher price point than others, so it’s good practice to be aware and knowledgeable.
Styling Tips
You can display these in many places in your home. Scatter them across a mantel shelf for a charming display. Or add individual pieces across a shelving unit, hutch or curio cabinet to add interest throughout a piece of furniture. Add one piece on a night stand, bureau or bathroom counter for a pop of unexpected seasonality. It’s all in the details. Vintage books and dishes used as risers arrange the pieces at different heights, adding interest and movement. This prevents all the pieces to be at the same height, creating a flat effect.

Closing Thoughts
Thrifty finds create a signature style for any home, which can’t be replicated. Thrifting is a fun treasure hunt for adults and a secret weapon for interior designers and vintage store owners. I lean into thrifting to provide fresh and unique pieces for our home.

Thrifted goodies will give your home a timeless and unique vibe, which can be jazzed up with seasonal intention. Beyond that, thrift pieces are sustainable, used throughout the seasons and curates a collected home. I hope you enjoyed this simple project to give all the spring feels with cottage core and vintage vibes.
