A little while ago I shared the stag canvas glow-up project, which spear headed this holiday vignette. As I shared, I love the stately stature and majestic aura of deer, stags, bucks. etc. There’s also moose and elks, and I’m inexplicably drawn to all of them. For whatever reason they speak to me and here we are.

Stags and bucks are both male deer, differentiated by species. Female deer are called does while young deer are called fawn. Moose and elk are the biggest and heaviest species in the deer family. I think I have representation of all these different varieties in this themed vignette.

This deer, stag, buck, moose, elk collection has been slowly curated over the years. Some pieces are from common stores like Target and Home Goods, while others are from boujee home interior boutiques and the latest stag canvas from the Dollar Tree. What’s the moral of the story? Look for what you like regardless of where you are when out shopping. The collection includes a variety of styles from vintage to rustic to whimsical.

The rustic and refined push and pull is a favorite around here, which creates interest in decor vignettes. The shiny Christmas baubles contrast nicely with the organic pieces like the dried roses and pine cones. It adds layers of different textures, which creates depth and movement to a styling.

If you’re a regular reader then you are familiar with stylings in this antique secretary desk. Vintage books are always included regardless of the theme since it seems fitting for the old desk. For this particular styling I kept the color palette in the browns and tans to coordinate the feel and theme of the vignette.

In decor, textures always add depth and dimension. There’s a few different layers of texture here. Decorating with organics is a favorite of mine, adding dried flowers and a couple different varieties of pine cones adds freshness. The books with leather and canvas covers plus crusty pages are always a great texture boost. Plus the bottlebrush trees and tassels and velvet ribbons add even more texture.

The color palette is tight in the neutral brown family, ranging from deep chocolates to lighter caramels. The colors blend into golden, brassy and bronze accents. The deer themselves also range from deep browns into the lighter caramel browns. And the German glass glitter pieces are some of my favorite, adding a layer of lux to a mostly rustic scene.

I’m enjoying the neutrals and browns this holiday season, and this deer vignette fits right in. Across the living room sits our neutral brown mantel styling. I’ve also continued to crush on gingerbread this season which blends right in. I’ll be sharing a gingerbread styling by the end of the week so make sure to come back and visit.

Decorating Pro Tip: As you are building the layers and adding different elements take a step back and assess the styling. Look at everything from different angles and also take photos. We see things differently in a picture versus real life. Adjustments can be made based on what you see.

I love all the magic the season brings. I tend to blend traditional with new feels. This keeps things fresh and yet familiar, which is exactly what the season should be all about. The comfort of things we look forward to plus the things that bring the unexpected. The combination creates the delightful emotions of the holiday season.

This is a busy week ahead. Our baby girl comes home from college, and my father in law arrives all by the end of the week. The festivities are full force from there, and I can’t wait for all of it. Looking forward to sharing traditions together and creating new memories. Hope you are all having a magical holiday season.
