Rustic & Refined Christmas Mantel Decor Styling
Rustic and refined decor comes together to evoke complex and mysterious emotions. A Christmas mantel decor styling with rustic and refined elements creates a scene for all the Christmas magic. It’s a formula I love, using some organic elements with some lux pieces and together they come together with unexpected results.

I used three main motifs weaved throughout the styling, including organic touches, velvety ribbons and brass bells. These are the three main components, which inspired the mantel styling, but there’s so much more to share. Please come on in.

Welcome to Styled 2 Ways – The Christmas Mantel Edition
Styled 2 Ways is a collaboration between my blog, Master”pieces” of my Life, and a new blog on the scene, From the Bay to the Beach, created by Susan. Susan is an old friend of mine and recently started her blog, sharing life style posts about decor, travel, and more. Susan splits her time between the San Fransisco Bay Area and the San Diego beaches.

For the Styled 2 Ways series, we will each share our point of view for a particular styling, project or concept. Although we both like many of the same things we both have unique styles of our own, and we want to share how the same idea can be expressed in different ways. Both ways are equally as fantastic, showing how unique takes on the same idea can expand our own personal style.

Inspiration Behind the Rustic & Refined Christmas Mantel Decor Styling
Rustic and refined is a perfect marriage for my decor aesthetic. I have been crushing on velvet ribbons and bells the last few years and they are on repeat around here. Organic touches are always front and center in our home decor and they add great rustic details to the entire styling.

Christmas is so much fun to decorate for, and it should be a reflection of your home, your family and the things you love. I always strive to stay true to my style, and I hope you enjoy this rustic & refined Christmas mantel styling.
The Details About the Rustic & Refined Mantel Styling
The fireplace is the focal point in the living.?The living room is the first room to the right of the foyer when you enter our home, which puts the fireplace mantel in the straight-line of sight for our guests.?This prompts me to style the mantel seasonally throughout the year.

Besides the trend forward items of velvet ribbons and bells, the mantel styling also includes organic elements and pieces that are just traditional for our holiday celebration.
Rustic Tones
The fresh garland and dried orange slices add the natural, organic feels, which are so simple but also rich at the same time. Brass bell garlands are the perfect compliment to the cedar branches, adding a touch of special.?

Using organic elements in decor is such a simple detail, which can be foraged many times right from mother nature making it economical and environmentally friendly. I’ve used dried orange slices in our Christmas decorations for the last few years.

Luxe Looks
Velvet ribbon has a casual look, but at the same time evokes feelings of luxury.?Such a complex mix of emotions, which I absolutely love.?I added a few different varieties in this Christmas mantel. Also some shiny baubles under a cloche give a hint of glam.

The large velvet green and gold double sided bow is balanced out on the other side of the mantel with layered thinner gold and green velvet ribbons on a stately cloche with vintage French leather bound books. I always lean towards an asymmetrical mantel styling, and balance is key.

Traditional Touches
Our burlap stockings and Noel stocking hangers are a staple on our Christmas mantle regardless of the styling or theme. I’ve had the silver Noel hangers from Pottery Barn since we were newlyweds, and we’ve used these burlap stockings for over a decade now.

Each stocking has a small Christmas journal which dangles off the mantel. Everyone makes an entry every year with their favorite part of that particular holiday season, or best memory, etc. It’s great to read it every year, and my favorite is to see how the kids’ handwriting has changed over the years. These are traditions we look forward to every year

Brocante Vibes
Of course a few flea market and thrifted pieces need to sneak into any stylings and vignettes around here. The assorted silver tapers have been collected over the years at different thrifts. The silver stands & cloches are also second hand finds.

The gilded mirror over the mantel is also a flea market find. Thrifted frames are always on the mantel in some shape or form. layering the frames on the mirror adds dimension, depth and interest to the mantel decor.

Closing Thoughts
I wanted to use a fresh garland and originally I thought it would sit on the mantel, but as I started to play, I draped it around the mirror and liked it.?Then I layered the bell garlands on top of the fresh cedar.?It’s such a classic Christmas look. Let creativity and inspiration guide you, and it will take you to unexpected places.?

I appreciate inspiration from others, which is always so powerful, and I strive to inspire you here. Thanks for stoping by friends. This is the time of year when holidays start to overlap. This setup is beautiful and so festive! As an upholstery cleaner, I see a lot of different holiday décor ideas in clients’ homes, and I love how everyone adds their personal touch. Draping the garland around the mirror instead of the mantel gives it a fresh, unexpected twist. It’s all about letting creativity take the lead—just like you did here!
