I wanted to inject some purple tones into my Valentine’s decor for a couple of reasons. A few months ago I scored these two purple transferware plates, which I wanted to use for Valentine’s Day decor. And here we are. If you’re curious, you can read more about how and where I found these gorgeous plates here {A Thrift Shopping Mindset}. Next week is the next and first installment of Thrifted Goodies for the new year. Stop by, or better yet, sign up to get all the new Master”pieces” of my Life updates to your inbox.

Purple tones is not a color I have necessarily used in Valentine’s Day decor before and this was the perfect opportunity. You can read about other color palettes to use for the holiday of love here {Stylish Ideas for Valentine’s Day Decor}. Although I love traditions and classic decor, it’s creative and interesting to mix things up every once in awhile.

I love the way lilacs and violets and purple and lavender all play off of each other with subtle variations. Some have more blue in them while others have more pink and they all look lovely together. I found various images from the Graphics Fairy with different purple toned blooms to create these ornaments. Simple printed images, cardboard and tinsel trim bring these vintage inspired purple heart flower ornaments together with ease.

I found all my images on the Graphics Fairy website. Karen has a ton of vintage images on her site, which are readily available for personal use. You can easily download free images and use them in so many different ways. This is one of my primary sources for vintage crafting and altered art projects. There are many other sources online which simply require a basic search for whatever topic images you are looking for.

I used a piece of cardboard I had kicking around for this project. Next time you get an amazon package or any delivery for that matter, save some pieces for projects like this. Keep in mind the cardboard is tricky to cut through, and if this proves too difficult for you, you can always use chipboard, which is easier to cut.

The brown ink and tinsel trim all add vintage vibes to the end piece, which is a look I prefer. If this is not your look or style preference, you can adapt the project. Instead of tinsel you could use yarn or other trim that represents your style and reflects your design aesthetic. Make it yours. That’s the beauty of DIY decor.

I made six ornaments which are about the size of an average cookie. Feel free to make as many ornaments as you need since this is such an easy and affordable DIY. You could create these as gifts or favors for an event, or they can also be used in a table styling as place cards, or they could be strung together to make a festive garland. Alternatively, you could make one giant one as a decor hanger to adorn a mirror, door or cabinet.

I hope this inspires you to create something for your home for the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday. If you’re don’t necessarily decorate for Valentine’s Day, this would also make a charming spring decoration. The weather around here has been unseasonably warm, which has me thinking all things spring already.

I know many folks are under winter storms with snow and super chilly conditions. Watching the football games this past weekend with all the snow in other parts of the country made me realize how winter looks very differently for all of us. Wherever you are, stay safe and warm. And please continue to pray for the folks dealing with so much devastation. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you.

          1. I am in love with this crafting idea MaryJo! I cannot say I have a favorite color, but I seem to gravitate towards lavender and various purple hues. These are spot on, I think I need to work on this craft myself. So cute, and I love how you used cardboard, green crafts are my favorite!
