About the Porn Star Martini

It really has nothing to do with porn. The Pornstar Martini  is a passion fruit flavored cocktail made with vanilla vodka. The Porn Star martini was created by Douglas Ankrah in 2002 at his bar, Townhouse, in SoHo, London. The cocktail according to Douglas was inspired by a visit to Mavericks Revue Bar Gentlemen’s Club, a strip club in Cape Town, South Africa. In interviews, Ankrah claimed he used the “porn star” name to evoke “a stylish and confident drink…[that’s]…pure indulgence, sexy, fun and evocative” And here we are.

How to Make a Porn Star Matini Cocktail Recipe

As elaborate as the porn star martini looks and as provocative as the name insinuates, it’s a fairly simple cocktail to assemble. Mix, shake, pour, that’s it. The passion fruit gives all the exotic vibes and it does not disappoint. Make sure you eat the fruit since it’s incredibly delicious!

Ingredients

• 1-1/2 oz Vanilla Vodka
• 1/2 oz Passion Fruit Liquor
• 1 oz Passion Fruit Puree
• 1/2 coz Fresh Lime Juice
• 1/2 oz Vanilla Simple Syrup
• 2 oz Sparkling Wine
• Passion Fruit

Cooking Pro Tip: The fresher the ingredients are, the better the end result of any recipe.

• Shaker
• Citrus Juicer
• Coupe Cocktail Glass

Cooking Pro Tip: Always read a recipe all the way through before starting. Then re-read the recipe and assemble all your ingredients so you are fully prepared, knowing all the things you need (ingredients and tools included).

Instructions

• Read entire recipe and assemble all your ingredients and tools
• Combine all the ingredients except sparkling wine and passion fruit in shaker

• Fill rest of shaker with ice
• Shake vigorously to combine ingredients and chill mixture
• Cut passion fruit in half and place in bottom of glass
• Pour shaken mixture over fruit

• Top with sparkling wine

Tips & Recommendations for the Porn Star Martini Cocktail

Bubbles

Since you are adding other ingredients to the champagne or sparkling wine, I would recommend to not necessarily use super spendy bubbles. At the same time, I would also recommend using bubbles which taste good on their own. You can choose the type of bubbles you prefer, including Prosecco, Cava, brut, etc.

Side Car

Originally the porn star martini cocktail was designed to be served with a sidecar of sparkling wine, meaning a shot glass of bubbles on the side. The sparkling wine would be used as a chaser after a sip of the cocktail. You can also top off the cocktail with the bubbles as we do here. You do you, and indulge your preference.

Substitutions | Alternatives

If you can’t get a hold of vanilla simple syrup, you can always substitute a teaspoon of sugar and a dash of vanilla extract. Also passion fruit, a tropical variety, isn’t always readily available. Instead of garnishing with a passion fruit itself you can use a twist of lime or a berry of sorts. The passion fruit just gives it that extra, which makes the drink so special.
