on the menu ~ thanksgiving treats

To be clear, Thanksgiving in itself is a treat to me.
But I just wanted to share some more unique treats.
Thanksgiving treats2
We all love apple pie… and pumpkin pie… and pecan pie, all the traditional fare, but I like to mix it up once in awhile.
Thanksgiving treats5
I started making these little candy turkeys with Master M when he was a little guy; he’s so proud he’s busting at the seams (he’s 13 now mind you).
Thanksgiving treats3
Then Miss M took over & here she is making them with grandma, who is no longer w/ us & we miss her dearly, especially around this time of year.
Thanksgiving treats1
We haven’t done them in a few years now, but I still find them adorable.
Oreo cookies, whopper chocolates, candy corn candies, butterscotch or peanut butter chips all held together w/ chocolate frosting.
Thanksgiving treats6
We would gift them to friends and neighbors; I would use them at place settings; the kids enjoyed them w/ dessert.
Super fun & super easy.
Thanksgiving treats12
This year I made little acorns instead.
They are a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e.
I saw them in a facebook food group I’m a part of & I knew right away I wanted to make them.
Thanksgiving treats11
Miss M and her girlfriend helped me make them & it was super, duper easy.
And, yes, they are a bit messier than I would of have liked but the girls had fun & that makes me happy.
Mini Nilla wafers, Hershey’s kisses & butterscotch | chocolate chips again held together w/ chocolate frosting.
Thanksgiving treats13
Trying to figure out how to include them in my dessert table.
Speaking of the dessert table…I’m a traditionalist at heart.
I don’t really want to mess with my Thanksgiving menu too much.
I tweak things here & there every year, depending on the food trends but staying true to conventions.
BUT invariably we have pies left over year after year that I end up discarding ‘cuz it’s just not our thing.
Thanksgiving treats8
SO two years ago I made pumpkin pie parfaits instead of a big pie.
Everyone got their own portion and it was all gone by the end of the night.
Thanksgiving treats7
Layer your pumpkin filling recipe then ginger snap crumble then whipped cream & repeat.  top with a piece of ginger snap.
No left overs & looks so pretty.
Thanksgiving treats9
Last year I switched it to a pumpkin pie bread pudding, but I think I liked the parfait better AND a caramel apple bar instead of apple pie.
Caramel apple bar 1
I did a whole post on the caramel apple bar that you can read about here.
Have you finalized your Thanksgiving menu yet?
I’m almost there & working on my tablescape as well.
Happy Cooking!
