Inspiration for the Holiday Rustic Dough Bowl
Natural elements inspire this dough bowl arrangement, which are repurposed, foraged and reused. Nature is a never ending resource for decor throughout the year. The Fall copper trough centerpiece below is repurposed and layered with Holiday cheer in a wooden dough bowl.

This rustic holiday dough bowl includes the following natural elements:
- Dried hydrangeas from a Fall centerpiece, originally from your backyard
- Tree greenery from Christmas tree lot
- Pine cones foraged from local parks, nature walks, etc.
- Floral fillers from an old flower arrangement
Join me as we layer and stack a rustic dough bowl for the holidays. This wooden dough bowl arrangement will grace our kitchen table as holiday decor.

Decorator Tip: If you buy a real Christmas tree, always ask if you can take clippings from their garbage bins. It’s a great way to add extra greenery throughout your home at no cost. The tree lot is happy you are hauling it away. Plus it adds that fresh pine scent throughout your home.
Step by Step Instructions to Layering a Rustic Holiday Dough Bowl
The trick to a stunningly beautiful dough bowl arrangement is to add layers full of texture and contrast. Although I use particular elements, you can always improvise with your own favorites. Adapt it to your personal decor style and make it yours.

Base Layer
Wooden dough b owls have a fabulous patina with natural wood grains, whether it’s a new piece or a.vintage vessel. A vintage linen resting on the bottom of the dough bowl and draping softly over the edges adds texture and a bed for the bowl fillers to rest on.

Foundation Layer
The linen base is further reinforced with a layer oof greenery. Some branches are trimmed form our tree plus extra branches can be found at tree farms. Your can build the greenery layer as sparse or heavy as you wish depending on the other filler options.

Filler Layer
The dried hydrangeas are repurposed form a Fall centerpiece here. The hydrangeas are layered from the outside edges inward until there’s full coverage. The floral stems are cut short from the pervious arrangement. If needed clip the stems to fit the bowl properly.

Accent Layer
Another natural element are pine cones, used to fill in gaps around the hydrangea flower heads. I had frosted pine cones and natural ones selected and opted for the darker natural cones. They made more of a statement, contrasting better against the fading hydrangeas.

Finishing Layer
Dried seeded eucalyptus stems add a subtle finishing touch. The stems, left over from a spent floral arrangement, add another layer of texture and contrast, which adds movement to the entire composition.

Focal Layer
Ornaments aren’t just for the Christmas tree. Christmas baubles are always fun to use in Holiday decor, and a nice pop in this arrangement among all the natural elemnts Flocked ornaments in brown tones compliment and contrast the arrangement. These ornaments were curated last year for this project {How to Decorate a Christmas Mantel with Neutral Brown Tones}.

Tips & Recommendations to Keep In Mind
Natural Elements
The vibe for this dough bowl styling is all about natural elements, but you can create a similar look with faux florals and greenery. Use what you have and is accessible to you. I have included some artificial options for you in the shopping section below for your convenience.
Trust the Process
Start the project with a certain look in mind and work from there. Start with the foundational layers and build up. If a layer doesn’t fit your desired vision change it as you go. Don’t be afraid to remove elements and add others as you reach the desired effect.
Be Ready to Pivot
Dark green ornaments were selected at the onset of the project. When it was time to add the baubles, the color choice shifted, which is part of the process. Additionally, two different pine cone styles were selected and although I thought the frosted cones would work, in reality the brown pine cones worked much better.
Stay True to your Style
I am partial to rustic and organic decor, but if that’s not your jam, then switch things up to coordinate with your style. At the end of the day, the holiday dough bowl is for YOUR home to make YOU happy. Use items which speak to you and coordinate with your home interior. I’m sharing my process to inspire an easy decor piece.
