The French 75 is a classic cocktail dating back to World War I, which combines gin, champagne, lemon juice and sugar. Today we are going to tweak it a bit and substitute the sugar with pomegranate juice. It’s a delicious drink, but it does pack a big punch.

Inspiration for the Pomegranate French 75 Cocktail
The French 75 cocktail is my jam. It’s my cocktail of choice always, but I wanted to change things up for the holiday season and make it a bit festive. Queue in the pomegranates. A good friend of mine has a pomegranate tree and she gave me a bunch when she stopped by not too long ago for my birthday. The wheels started turning…and here we are.
How to Make a Pomegranate French 75 Cocktail
Be careful; since this is a bit of a sneaky drink. It’s easy to drink, but don’t be fooled since it carries a big punch. It was named after a gun that was used in WWI for a reason. Although I was concerned the pomegranate juice might make it a bit too sweet, it does not. The drink is actually quite tart so if you prefer a sweeter profile, your might add simple syrup or sugar. I think it’s perfect just the way it is.

Tips & Recommendations for the Pomegranate French 75 Cocktail
Glasses
Since the French 75 recipe contains both gin and bubbles it can be served in a variety of cocktail glasses. Champagne flutes, martini and coupe glasses can all be used. My personal preference is a martini glass or coupe, but you do you. Either way it’s delicious.
Chills
This drink is best when served well chilled. Both the champagne and the gin mixture should be very cold when mixed together into the glass. I’ve never chilled the glassware, but that’s always an option. Like with any good martini, ice cold is best.
Batches
If you want to prepare in advance, you can fill the shaker with as many drinks as possible and chill in the refrigerator. This way it’s ready to pour when guests arrive. IIf you shake with ice in the shaker, make sure two strain when poured into individual glasses.
Bubbles
Since you are adding other ingredients to the champagne or sparkling wine, I would recommend to not necessarily use super spendy bubbles. At the same time, I would also recommend using bubbles which can taste good on their own.
Substitutions
Don’t care for gin? No worries, you can always substitute vodka. This is called a French 76 and it’s a similar cocktail just the punch from the gin is slightly different than vodka. Either way it’s tasty. Also simple syrup can be use instead of sugar, both offering the same results.
