You can find dried florals in your own backyard or on nature walks. You can also find amazing varieties at craft stores or from local makers. I have included some amazing options in the shopping section below for your convenience. The trick is to pick flowers which speak to you and make you smile.

Inspiration for the Fall Square Moody Dried Floral Wreath
Moody blooms are on repeat around here for the Fall season, and I am partial to square wreaths. I’ve had this square wreath form kicking around f.o.r.e.v.e.r. It finally got it’s day in court, and it does not disappoint.
All the dried florals used for this project were on hand. Some florals are left over from other projects and some just dried naturally from fresh arrangements used around the house. Mr. M calls this hoarding, I simply call it being prepared. Marry the lonely square wreath and the dried florals…and here we are. This is fairly simple to assemble AND super fun to arrange. Join me as we create a moody Fall wreath.
How to Make a Square Moody Dried Floral Wreath DIY Perfect for Fall
This wreath comes together fairly easily. The longest part of the process was brainstorming the design and deciding what florals to use. I’ve done much of the heavy lifting for you here with the design and composition of the wreath. Let’s get busy crafting.
Supplies
- Square Grapevine Wreath
- Assorted Dried Flowers
- Assorted Dried Foliage
- Velvet Ribbon | Bow
- Glue Gun Glue Sticks
- Craft Pins or Floral Wire
- Sealing Spray
Tools
- Scissors
- Floral Sheers
- Hot Glue Gun
- Silicone Finger Protectors
- Crafting Tweezers
Crafting Pro Tip: Read all the instructions through once and then re-read everything again. This way, you are familiar with everything you need and know what to expect.
Instructions
- Read instructions thoroughly and assemble all supplies & tools
- Identify main florals
- Trim floral stems to size using floral sheers
- Using hot glue gun adhere main florals to top corner, overlapping each other
- On opposite bottom corner adhere main florals, using hot glue gun
- Note: Use floral wire to attach florals when hot glue isn’t enough
- Add auxiliary florals and foliage around main pieces to fill in empty spaces and create fullness
- Fill in until desired composition is achieved
- Fluff and primp
- Spray florals to coat and seal, making sure you’re in a well ventilated space – outside is optimal
- Attach bow to wreath
- Voila! Hang your new wreath and enjoy the Autumn vibes!
Tips & Recommendations to Keep In Mind
Use What You Have
Use florals from your yard if possible. Also faux florals are a fabulous alternative. Use anything you might have on hand. I am being very conscious this holiday season to use what I have and not buy anything new. Challenge yourself to use or reuse supplies you might already own. If you don’t have a grapevine form look at thrifts or garage sales. An outdated wreath can be taken apart and the frame reused.
I used the following elements:
- Dried sunflower heads
- Preserved bunny tail stems
- Dried eucalyptus pods
- Dried seeded eucalyptus stems
- Assorted random dried stems
Like I mentioned above, some elements were bought dried or preserved, while others were dried organically. I let many floral arrangements simply dry in the vase and save whatever looks usable. This way? you get double duty from flowers whether store bought or home grown. Enjoy the flowers while they are fresh and bright plus enjoy them again when they are dried and moody.
Lean Into Nature
Nature is a never ending resource and creative inspiration. Look outside at your own yard, or at a local park or a nature trail. If you really start to look around you might be surprised what you notice and find. Please always respect other’s property or any regulations posted. I forage everywhere I go, but I am always aware of limitations.
Secure & Sturdy
Grapevine wreath forms are a great foundation for DIY projects since you can secure elements using the vines themselves. I would always recommend using something to adhere everything securely though, whether it’s wire or glue or floral picks. Doors are opened and closed frequently (at least ours is), and you want your wreath to be able to withstand all the movement. Also the setting spray seals everything securely. You can use hair spray in a pinch if you don’t own setting spray. No need to buy something new.
Less is More
The entire form doesn’t have to be covered in florals. The opposing corner balance provides character and charm to the wreath composition. I edited myself to not add more or too much bulk to the wreath. It’s a simple design aesthetic with whispers of the Fall season with a moody and edgy attitude.
