estate sale findings

So as some of you might know i’ve been on the hunt for a vintage typewriter for quite awhile now.  I talked about it in my aspirations for 2015 here.  I’ve seen a ton I liked but the price never spoke to me.  Well my cousin spotted one in the preview pictures of a local estate sale.  So guess what I did today after I dropped off carpool at school?
Estate sale
Yup, I headed straight to the estate sale.  The price on this one was less than 1/2 of all the other ones I had seen and wanted so it had to come home with me.

It’s old, and heavy, and totally what I was looking for.  I can’t wait to clean it up & stage it!  The estate sale was a mad house but since I got the typewriter right off the bat then I took my time and looked around peacefully.

I also picked up some vintage ball jars, doilies, floral frogs, books and vintage holiday postcards.  There was a ton of silver plate, china, glassware, depression glass, Christmas , etc. etc. but nothing else really spoke to me.
Estate sale2
I’m planning to make a table runner using doilies so I added all these to the collection.  It’s a pinterest idea {I can’t take credit} that I have and I’ll share once I complete it.

Old, tattered books in the green, gray, brown tones always speak to me IF the price is right. I also love the shape of the rectangular frogs.  I already have a couple and just wanted to add to my collection.  They’re such a fun item to use with decor in vignettes.
Estate sale4
I picked a dozen vintage postcards.  The homeowner had a huge collection and it took me a bit of time to narrow down my selection.  : )  I have a few Christmas, Easter, birthday, and a few more I can’t remember.  You’ll be seeing them as a share them here.

All because of this.

I just got an old typewriter from my dad he had out in his barn–he had gotten it from a company he had worked for. It’s from the late 60’s/70’s, huge and heavy. It took me forever to clean it up. I did a Google search on the model I have and there was some obscure website that had a scanned copy of the original owner manual. I was able to disassemble most of the typewriter to get all the gunk out. And I ordered a new ribbon off Amazon!

  2. That typewriter is an amazing find!! Good job and thank so much for sharing your finds at On Display Thursday this week 🙂

  3. SCORE! Great typewriter. I have a vintage one that I bought from a friend when she was moving and down sizing. I only paid $20, but that was around 8 or 9 years ago. Lately when I see them they are over $100. Your doilies made me smile. I am collecting them to do the same thing. Pinned an idea from Pinterest as well. Love the rectangular frogs. I have a collection, but have never seen any rectangular ones. Another thing to look for. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
