eight, hamlet, vip

We just got back from St. Thomas (which I’ll post about once I upload my pictures), but before we left we had a whirlwind of activity.  All good.  Sebastian, my first born (not including the furry, four legged dependent variety), was the one to be celebrated.  On January 31st he turned eight, on February 3rd he performed his first leading role and like the good parents we are, we signed him up to be the “very important person” in his classroom during the busiest week of the school year.  Like I said, all good.

Here’s the man of the hour on the morning of his eighth birthday.  That’s right e-i-g-h-t-h.  Words cannot express how proud this boy makes me on a constant basis.  We celebrated his birthday on Sunday 31st quietly with just the family, us & auntie Fabianna.  There was lego building, pizza eating and just plain family fun.  Then came the big celebration on Monday with 20 of his buddies with a sports party at Super Franks.

The boys all lined up to go on the zip line.

Lexi on the zip line.  This girl has no fear!  One of the many things I love about her.

After the zip line there was dodge ball, go cart driving and just general crazy boy fun.  The boys were sweating, the boys were screaming, the boys were out of control….the boys had fun!

I LOVE this eight year old boy.  We ended the night by opening presents at home with one of his best buds, Trevor.

THEN a couple of days later came Hamlet.  All three 2nd grade classrooms put on a separate performance of “Green eggs and Hamlet”.  That’s right, Shakespeare with a Dr. Seuss twist.  It was funny, It was smart, It was perfect for a bunch of 7 & 8 year olds.  There was a morning performance in front of the school.

Sebastian nailed it!  The endless nights of rehearsing lines, & negotiating to practice lines, & bribing to repeat lines was oh, so totally worth it!  I was just as nervous as Sebastian, if not more, and I would do it all over again.  What a wonderful experience for the kids at this age.  What a wonderful feeling for the parents to see it orchestrated so perfectly.  I have to say that the teachers are instrumental in bringing it together.

We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Donovan as Sebastian’s 2nd grade teacher.  She is fabulous and extremely inspirational and motivational for Sebastian.  He loves her, therefore we love her.

And thank you to Barrett, the drama coach.  He wrote & directed “Green eggs & Hamlet”, an extremely creative piece, which offered these kids an invaluable life experience.

Did I mention I love this boy ?!!?
AND between blowing out candles and singing on stage, Sebastian found time to celebrate his VIPness in the classroom.

And of course he wanted to introduce Mocha to his classroom since he IS part of the family.

I do have to say that Mocha was very, Very, VERY well behaved (although Matt’s hand & wrist might disagree).
