Inspiration Behind the Easy, Homemade Frozen Doggie Treats

Truth be told I can’t take any credit here. This was all Miss Masterpiece. While I was shopping at Joann for some craft project, Lexi spied this dog treat mold and had to have it for Misty. She created the recipe based on some google searches and viola! Here we are.

Lexi of course wanted the treats to be as healthy as possible for the latest addition to our family. I shared all about Misty last year {Meet Misty – the tale of a silver Labrador retriever} and she’s the baby around here, spoiled by all. These tasty treats are just a small example of all the love she gets around here.

How to Make Easy, Homemade No-Bake Doggie Treats

Ingredients

1 cup Plain Greek Yogurt
1/3 cup Natural Peanut Butter
Blueberries (optional)

Tools

Instructions

Assemble all ingredients and tools
Combine yogurt and peanut butter thoroughly in mixing bowl

Fill molds, cleaning edges when done

Press blueberries into peanut butter mixture if desired

Freeze treats until fully set (about 2 hours)
Un-mold treats and save in the freezer in zip lock bag

Tips for Making Easy No-Bake Doggie Treats

If you already have silicone molds feel free to use them, but we just find the paw and bone shapes to be adorable for our furry friends. This is a great set of dog treat molds. Whatever you decide to use make sure they are safe to use in the freezer. We also clean ours in the dishwasher.

Blueberries are a great source for antioxidants, but feel free to experiment with other fruits. We have also used bananas in the past. Always make sure to research whatever you choose to feed your dog is safe for canines.

On that note, we chose to use all natural peanut butter with no additives, including salt, sugar, etc. It’s the healthiest option for dogs, and Lexi is all about providing Misty with the best nutrition. I told you, she’s a pretty spoiled pooch. We plan to add omega or fish oil in the next batch to amp up the health benefit.

The most labor intensive part of the recipe is adding the mixture to the molds. Fingers work efficiently and provide the easiest access into the small nooks and crannies of the molds. Once the molds are full, clean all the edges with you finger or a paper towel.

Sometimes air bubbles will form, which can be easily resolved by using a toothpick. By inserting a toothpick in the treats and working around in circular motion dissolves the air pockets.

If you have left over batter after filling your mold(s), you can simply place dollops in a Tupperware container forming cookies. These aren’t as cute, but they are every bit as delicious.

Lexi will be heading back to college in a few weeks so I’m thinking the dog treat duty will fall on my lap. We enjoy pampering Misty and that’s ok.
