Like many of you, I love plaid | tartans | checks. they are so fun to mix & match this time of year.

I absolutely love, Love, LOVE this place setting!
The animal print place mat with the layering of plates; transferware with plaid. Love!
Then I found this.
Thank goodness- then I don’t have to justify overspending or convince myself that I really don’t need (need?) them.
So I started searching. And looking. And thinking.
Why not make my own?
At first I wanted a green tartan plaid. I nice scottish pattern. But, alas, none to be readily found.
So I switched gears to a black palette instead, which I think will turn out to be more versatile in the long run.
I started with this.
I found the chargers at Michael’s after Thanksgiving for 60% off.
Then I found the fabric at Joann’s, using a 40% coupon.
Not bad, huh?
Viola!
I was worried the fabric might bunch up, but if you work quickly it goes pretty smoothly.
The sticky glue is not fun to get off your hands but otherwise pretty smooth sailing.
Cut the fabric slightly larger than the chargers.
Spray the front of the chargers with spary adhesive & lay fabric on smoothing it all out to the edges.
Trim the excess fabric around the edges, leaving a lip & then glue the lip to the underside.
I loved how they worked on our Christmas tablescape.
The green stripe worked perfectly with the green Spode plates, glass water goblets & napkins.
It also has a small red stripe as well, which was just enough for me for christmas.
I scotch guarded all of them before setting the table, which came in handy since Miss M of course spilled some of her Cioppino.
I gave her a knowing smile since she helped me make them & I taught her about scotch guard.
II love the casualness it brought to the table w/ the formal china, silver & crystal.
fun, fun, fun!
Since they didn’t cost me that much I won’t feel guilty if I get tired of them.
I love them so much right now I’ll be using them for my new year’s eve tablescape.
Loving the neutral palette here.
I certainly will be using them through many tablescapes in 2016.
