Candles always add ambiance to spaces. You can use tapers, pillars, votives, etc. to create a cozy mood in your home.

Real candles are fabulous but faux candles are a great option too. I use both depending on how and where they are displayed. Always use caution, being thoughtful of the candle surroundings. Wonderfully scented candles add another layer of warmth to a setting.

Lanterns add light and decor in one full swoop. I recommend using faux candles in lanterns for safety reasons. They require less maintence and monitoring, creating low fuss warmth and coziness.

Lanterns can be used inside and outside the home, coming in varied sizes. Oversized lanterns can be placed strategically throughout the home creating a glowing feeling from the ground up. Smaller lanterns can be used on sideboards, tables, mantels and more.

Nothing is cozier than a crackling fire in the fireplace during the long days of winter. A fire roars in our family room during the winter months. It’s cozy and warm and comforting.

If you simply have a mantel facing without a firebox, you can always create a similar feeling by using candles. It sets a wonderful mood.

Of course cozy blankets and throws are great accents in our homes, but extra special during the winter months when they provide physical warmth. They are pretty as well as practical which is always a bonus.

Our vintage painters’ ladder is always loaded with an assortment of blankets. Once again not only is it practical, but also acts as a decor accent. This chunky knit blanket below was a gift from my son, which I absolutely love. It adds so much texture and behaves like a weighted blanket.

Along with the blankets and throws, pillows and cushions add warmth and texture. Pillows with knit and fur and fuzzy accents are perfect for the winter months.

Adding pillows in unexpected places adds comfort and coziness to most spaces. Look for pillow covers with cozy textures and patterns.

Starting the warmth from the bottom up is a great way to spread the cozy vibes. Snug floor coverings add warmth and coziness under our feet.

Cozy rugs and carpets add texture and warmth just like blankets and pillows. Soft furnishings under our feet add warmth and coziness from the bottom up, evoking visions of a sheepskin rug in front of a roaring fire.

Natural elements are comforting and familiar. This rosemary tree left over from Christmas porch decor adds a cozy and comforting accent piece in the front foyer.

Our lemon tree not only provides a plethora of recipe options, but also creates cozy and homey feels.

Houseplants are great for so many reasons. They are pretty and improve the air quality in our home, but additionally they bring happiness into our homes.

Once all the decor from the holidays is put away, including the Christmas tree, houseplants fill the void. Winter is the perfect time of year to give all your houseplants maintenance, including transplanting, propagating, dividing and more.

Beyond houseplants, other organic elements add warmth to our interiors spaces. Forced bulbs, branches and pine cones are wonderful organic pieces to use this time of year.

These organic pieces not only provide warmth and comfort but give us hope towards the renewal of the fast approaching spring season.
