The toile pattern, tinsel and pearl accent give the ornament vintage vibes, but the same technique can be used creating a different aesthetic depending on your decor style. A moody tartan plaid would be a great choice for the current Ralph Lauren Christmas trend. Or vintage sheet music would create a great romantic feel for shabby chic cheer.

Craft Warning: Please proceed with caution when handling a hot glue gun.  Silicone finger protectors are highly recommended.  Please proceed with caution when working with an open flame. Maintain personal discretion and responsibility at your own risk.

Most paper napkins are either two or three ply. Make sure you are only use the top layer that has the design. The napkin layer is very thin and delicate so be very gentle when adhering it to the tag. Although the decoupage process can be forgiving, a gentle hand goes a long way. Plastic wrap is a great medium to use when pressing on the paper napkin to prevent rips. There are more details about decoupaging with paper napkins in this post {How to Decoupage Easter eggs}.

In order to trim excess paper around tag, I used the fire method. Very carefully, a corner of the excess paper is lit and it works itself around project. The glue in the decoupage medium extinguishes the fire. If you are not comfortable working with fire, I recommend using a sanding block or even a scissor to make paper edges flush with tag. I do this process over the sink so I can quickly run it under water if anything happens. Always proceed with caution when open flames are involved.

I chose to use tinsel since it has a vintage vibe. You can replace the tinsel with any ribbon, yarn, etc. you wish. The trim is a finishing touch, which can be omitted if desired. Be careful as you use the hot glue gun to adhere the trim, working around the tag. I highly recommend silicon finger protectors to prevent any mishaps.

Pearl brads are used, but can be replaced by any other type of brad. Also you can simply hot glue a craft pearl to the tag, if you don’t have pearl brads. I have included some in the shopping section below for your convenience.

The green toile design has all the French provincial feels I love so much. The silver tinsel twine finishes off the tag ornament with a whisper of vintage goodness. Plus the pearl detail compliments the other pearl decor I’m sprinkling around our holiday home.
